I like the name "quarterly book breakdown," because not only does it indicate how often you're aiming to do them, but maybe it can even be a play-on word for being a quarter of the way through each book. Ya know, just far enough to get a sense of the writing style, the aim of each book, and your impression thus far. It also us hear why you may or may not continue to read a book.

You almost always have books unknown to me, some of which I have purchased even though they aren't a style of Magick I have any interest in. I read A Deed Without A Name and Cornish Book of Ways together and feel they compliment each other very well. Together they created a bigger, clearer picture. I'd started Deed first and nothing made sense (your explanation of perspectives to modern viewpoints cleared up why, thank you!). With Book of Ways, I felt like I was watching everything from the author's shoulder. Blood and Bones is high on my current and ever expanding book list. Thank you! So glad you are feeling better ❤

Love the book recs! A great candle book is Madame Pamitas Candle Magic, she really breaks down everything from different types of candles and their uses, applying oils, reading flames and wax, using symbols etc. I also love Jason Millers books. He does a great job of breaking down rituals and explaining why each step is done. Another great one that can be difficult to find is The Modern Witch's Spellbook Volume 1 and 2 by Sarah Lyddon Morrison. It is such a fun and informative read. It was written in the 70's and feels like a beautiful time capsule of what was going on in the time while very much relating to today.

I thought your points about the black toad are really interesting and I definitely think I'll have to check it out. I am currently working on a book called Backwoods Witchcraft by Jake Richards and it focuses on the blending of folk practices and christianity in the appalachia region of America. I think it does a good job of explaining why one might blend the two because of the historical context of the people who moved from Ireland/Scotland/England and brought their Christian values and own folk traditions that were then combined with Native American influence. I think Richards does a good job of addressing the appropriation of Native American culture and how it effects these practices still today.

I know you don't like giving negative reviews on books, but as a beginner witch it would be so nice to have a "I didn't like this because... " Kind of take. I've been absolutely devouring literature on witchcraft, and sometimes I find things that are questionable and I don't know where to turn for verification - so knowing a book is misguided or inaccurate would be so helpful.
@HearthWitch
2 жыл бұрын
Within this video I did a negative review of Hedge Witchcraft, it may not seem like a negative review because I try to always be rounded in my discussions. If I don’t like a book, others might, so I gave both sides of the coin (why I didn’t like it and why others might). However there are books that are insensitive on many levels, books that I don’t feel comfortable even giving air time because they are so insensitive I don’t want to give them any advertisement. These are the kinds of books that I mention at the end regarding not being able to find a single redeeming factor because their insensitivity (towards individuals, races, genders, sexualities, etc) is not something I would ever want to promote.

If i can remember correctly, Pagan Portal authors need to remain under a certain word count. I like to think of them as a sort of literary version of tiktok since you aren’t able to share all necessary information under such a restriction and it becomes necessary to look elsewhere if you want to learn more in depth into the introduced topic. They’re good as a very brief introduction if you want to figure out what to look into further but never as a solitary source.

Well, now. Hearth's Channel has grown! I love Reading and I'm Great at it... One question: If I follow a "Custom" path which revolves entirely around the use of Hatred.... Well - I don't find anyone else with a path similar to mine - so that means I'm the Creator of the Hatred's Path? I generally use the benefits of it - crazy as it sounds... But Wouldn't recommed unless you want to go into goth with an intensity never seen before. (Not a Joke, Please.) Just some advice I'm asking... Because if there is no one else doing this at all, Well then I am alone in this, too...

My practice is centered around the Dark Moon and I want to learn more about baneful magic (I was one of those who was told over and over how horrible, dangerous, etc. baneful magic is when I started out). So I snapped up a copy of "Of Blood and Bones" and plowed through it fairly quickly. I was really hoping to find Baba Yaga included, but the fact that She isn't doesn't surprise me all that much. I didn't agree at all with the triple Goddess analogy in reference to The Morrigan. Overall, I gave it 4 stars and look forward to reading it again now that I have had time away from it.
