I love this movie! Normally a horror film made in the 50's would spend time giving you occasional glimpses of a hand, foot print or sound, only giving the full reveal at the end. Curse of the Demon doesn't mess around with any teasers and 5 minutes in you have the full-on 100% demon. As a youngster, I saw the demon appearing out of the smoke was amazing and scary. This film is a world class classic. I am almost jealous of those who haven't yet seen this movie but it's always a special treat. Thanks for posting

A really excellent horror-thriller. Well-acted, as Dana Andrews goes from a stodgy, rather unlikeable skeptic of the supernatural to a believer in the unknown at the end. Good scares, false starts, solid musical score, excellent direction, and a terrific ending, cheesy monster or not. "Maybe it's better not to know." Why such a simple effect of crickets and smoke is still so effective. When I saw and heard this little visual in the theater back in my impressionable childhood. No big time CG effects would have been more visceral than the moody dark woods and that SOUND,at least for me. You are correct in saying...that this type of movie was in an era that will never return. Both for the Studios and the audience. The British were always so good at setting the mood...plus the b&w pallet is just more effective. Who needs color or gore to sell a presentation. Imagination and style goes a long way. A classic. Only, with "this" particular film for our viewing by Stream City, one errie part is unfortunately cut out. I've seen this movie so many times over the years, I noticed it was missing. During the seance scene, a little girl who comes through Mr. Meek and says in a high pitch child's voice,...."Mummy, Mummy, I can't find Frederica." The deceased little girl is missing her doll and is telling her mother about it. It's a very small part. I can't understand why it was cut out because it lends itself so well to the scene and sets the tone for everything that's still to come. An oldie, but a goodie. Rotten Tomatoes gives this "uncut" film, 100%.

Way back in 1979, I happened to meet the director Cy Endfield at a party. This was just a few days after seeing his great film Zulu on TV. I was fascinated to learn that, having fled the McCarthy/HUAC witch hunts, he was the uncredited screenwriter on Curse/Night of the Demon ( Charles Bennett was the 'front')! It was very interesting to talk with him. Both he and the director didn't want to show the demon, only to suggest it, but the producers were insistent. My own view was that it was a mistake to show it at the beginning as it left nothing to the imagination. Fine to show it at the end, after the buildup of pervasive terror. Overall, though, one of the greatest horror movies ever.

The scene of Karswell as a magician/clown entertaining children, and then demonically summoning a tempest that scatters the children violently, is more frightening than anything Steven King wrote or committed to film -- especially haunting in the later light of the criminal arc of John Wayne Gacy, "The Killer Clown".

"Night of the Demon" is the original full-length version, but in this shorter version, called "Curse of the Demon", a few parts have been cut from this film!

This movie always scared the crap out of me when I was a kid during the 1960's - the 1970's when it aired on the weekend. It's still dark evil and creepy. If you possess the parchment and lose it blowing away in the wind, the Demond will come for you. 👹The Wizard Got A Taste Of His own Medicine In The End - What Comes Around Goes Around - LOL ! Cool Posting.

Kate Bush's song "Hounds of Love" begins with "It's in the trees ... it's coming..." in paying homage to this film.

I'm not a horror fan, but I have to admit, I couldn't turn this one off. No CGI, no jump shocks, just good old-fashioned suspense and psychological tension.

Try and find the much longer Night of the Demon british cut if you can... it's better still (I have both versions on dvd). This film is a real classic and deserves to be seen at its best.

Great film, thank you for posting it. Dana Andrews acted well as usual, but i didn’t understand how the character stubbornly remained in denial of the supernatural after so many “close encounters “. Can anyone explain the “666” on Joanna Harrington’s license plate? It takes the entire movie down a different path.

I watched this as a child in the 60s. I was scared witless. I have had no desire to visit Stonehenge as a result of watching this! 😮
