Curtis' son, Todd Mayfield, wrote a well written and candidly detailed biography of his father called Traveling Soul: The Life of Curtis Mayfield that you might want to check out.

His 1975 album There's No Place Like America Today is possibly my favourite '70s soul album ever, along with his own Curtis/Live!, Stevie's golden period, Al Green's Belle, Sly's There's a Riot Goin' On and Fresh, Aretha's Hey Hey The Other Side of the Sky, Shuggie Otis's Inspiration Information and too many others to list. I'd be most grateful if you could check one or two of them out at some point. Someone told me another reason Curtis's guitar style was so unique was because he tuned it to the black piano keys

This album was lightning in a bottle. To get so much incredible once-in-a-lifetime playing out of so many instruments, I can only imagine Curtis saying to the band before roll tape, "OK guys! We're going to take every drug available all at once and play until we pass out." Groovy!

. James Brown /Sly Stone Curtis Mayfield/P- Funk All wrote, dressed and moved as they liked( unlike Motown) Yet rarely seen on reaction channels. It waa completely off the radar of majorty on here. Some of us explored beyond just what we grew up with. What is lame is most making suggestions expect reactors to explore the unkown yet unwilling to do the same. I think most people write soundtrack instrumentals with musical notes on paper. But I know that Miles Davis created the entire soundtrack for a 1957 French movie call Ascenseur pour l'échafaud (English translation - Lift to the Gallows) by playing his trumpet while watching the scenes from the movie and recording it.

I think the lyrics to this song were important for the movie to describe Priest's woman played beautifully by Sheila Frazier. Unlike the impression the album cover and movie poster gives, her character, Georgia, was proud, strong, loving and smart.

Maybe I'm a bit high but that guitar with the wah to me actually sounds like it is imitating the cops shouting on the walkie talkies while chasing the junkie. Amazing. I think that is Curtis scratching that wah guitar.

I loved the actor who played the junkie being chased. They were running through the streets in New York, with real New Yorkers, filming on a low budget without permits. Trying not to make the cops or the gangs mad (they had to pay some gangs to let them shoot the scenes on their turf).

"Junkie Chase" sounds closer to a simple movie scene accompaniment than any other track on the album. Not long afterward, I heard it used (illegally, I'm sure) in a really cheap, generic kung fu flick, during (of course) a chase scene. The gorgeous "Give Me Your Love" has long been one of my two favorite tracks on the album along with the equally beautiful "Think."

This is such a great album.❤🔥❤🔥 I wonder if you'd like to see a very young Michael Jackson, when he was still singing with his brothers as the Jackson 5 if so, then check this out. "Can You Feel It - The Jacksons" (by the channel: ogmuk) this is a live performance, and the quality is pretty decent. I always enjoy watching MJ perform with his siblings they all were such great singers and all of them had moves. lol What fond memories. RIP: Michael Jackson 💔🔥🕺🏾U R Missed

Great album. Love Curtis. They say Hendrix rhythm guitar playing was influenced by Curtis. That little wing, castles made of sand vibe. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure gimme ur love is what's playing on doggystyle when snoops in the bath tub with a young lady and he gets a ring on the door.
