1971 I was in my senior year had my driver I had bought CURTIS on album and I love the new style, the arrangement, and the music . So when Roots came out I had to have . My Dear Mother trusted me to drive her to visit her younger sister in Hot Springs , Arkansas and Curtis took us all the way down there and back. Curtis Mayfield was a huge taste for me at that point . LB Boomer Sooner October 13, 2023 Friday evening 7:41pm .

What a masterpiece. Curtis was very literally among the best. If he had stuck to making conventionally-themed music, he'd be hailed as a legend, from here to Hollywood. But he stuck to his guns and made these superb statements, as unpalatable as they were for white people to listen to and acknowledge. A true legend of music, there was nothing like him nor will there ever be anything like him again

@@1madmaxx80 Getting a little too defensive now? Calling ME a racist? You don't even know how to read. Go read what I wrote and try to understand it. Many people at the time found Curtis' exposé about how African Americas were living were very hard to swallow for many white people. If you can't understand that, get educated instead of hiding behind an alphanumerical handle to go on tirades on YT and . YOu're a snowflake AND a coward.

A suggestion: Requiem for a Harlequin by David Allen Coe. Not just the album (29 min approx) but the whole story behind it. I would love to find out his inspiration. It was made around 1970, long before anyone had ever heard of "outlaw country". Its totally different from anything else I've ever heard and one of my favorite works.
