what's crazy is the amount of time and detail put into this, yet it doesn't have much R value, or exhaust, which is the main reason to make an enclosure. I took $20 of XPS foam and made a box, put a CPU fan and some ducting in the back, for a fraction of the time and money, and it's light weight

Im looking to build an enclosure for fume management. How effective was this build? and does it trap significant heat inside?
@mikeparsonscc
4 жыл бұрын
I deliberately didn't seal all the gaps to make sure I didn't get too much heat build up, just enough to help out. Also the power supply being in a separate area helps a lot! Because it is not sealed I don't think it would prevent fumes getting out but it could be sealed up easily enough if needed 👍

@jimbob1er
4 жыл бұрын
I think it has potential but it is not completed yet. It is well done and good looking. It lack functionalities expected from enclosure. -Keep heat so that you can print better and print more materials. For that you would need temperature control and ventilation. -Filter the fume, just add some active carbon filter with a fan. -Noise reduction or noise deadning, this is the most difficult one. -Also you need to make it safe! Because of the enclosure, it can easily trap heat on critical components ( PSU, conrol board, heater etc). Lots of flammable materials around a hot source like this. You will not watch the entire print. It takes only two minutes or less to start a fire so you will miss the start. Most basically put a smoke alarm above the printer. What about a second one inside the enclosure. Fire extinguisher easily accessible near the printer. Even better to have automatic fire extinguisher inside the enclosure. What about cutting power if fire is detected (fume, heat) and cut the oxygen flow. Be notified if anything happens and be close enough to respond quickly.
@tophatvideosinc.5858

the power supply and controls were already outside the printer mate. and you dont worry about fumes until you start printing pla over 270 degrees celcius, which youll likely never do unless youre trying to turn a 50hr print into a 12hr print by overspeeding.

Curious do you have any dimensions you could share for the side profile and bottom face area? At the very least what is the LxW of the drawer? Going to draw something now for mine and I like your proportions
@mikeparsonscc
4 жыл бұрын
Of course! I built it around the size of the printer/power supply so the dimensions are a bit random... The cabinet is 540mm wide, 600mm deep and 630mm tall. The front facia is 220mm tall and the door is 440mm. The drawer is 320x130mm 👍
