Found this video looking for a slip cover for the same damn Evangelion 2.22 bluray. How they release 3 movies in a row with such different design work for the cases is beyond me. Not to mention leaving the middle movie with out a slipcover.

Thanks for putting this together (all those years ago)! I'm gearing up to design some UHD slips and this is extremely helpful, especially the bit about adding the clear coat. I'm really looking forward to customizing my collection!

@Nothingheavy8

i feel like it would be essentially the same process - but you just figure out the dimensions of a blu-ray disc insert and print it and shove it in there maybe?

If the problem is your printer in that scenario, but the files are the right size, you can always take the files on a flash drive to a local or chain printing shop for businesses and get them to print it out, they should also be able to double check that its the correct dimensions and should really only cost a few cents per page depending on how fancy of paper you want to use.

I love this video. It would be great to have the slipcovers for all those releases that come without them. I used to make a lot of custom DVD covers for my collection of Hong Kong movies released in my country because the covers made by the distributor were terrible. But then I just had that unsatisfactory feeling about them. The discs were original, but when I put my own covers on them, they felt kind of like a bootleg. It just didn´t feel right. Even though I was very happy about what the custom covers looked like. I had to put everything back eventually. It´s like my mental problem now 😀When I make a slipcover at home it decreases the value of the release in my eyes, so I just leave it as it is. But I hate it about myself. 😀

Fair enough, I know how you feel. I always try to talk the line of, if theres a chance I sell this item or plan on getting rid of it, then I wont make anything extra or custom. If its something I plan on keeping forever, then I have no problem, since the value is only in my eyes at that point.

Quick question…what kind of printer do you recommend to use? And what kind of paper? I’ve heard Glossy Cardstock, but idk about the thickness of the paper
@SymbioticLegion
7 ай бұрын
around 100lb paper is a good thickness. lots of photopaper is already quite thick. I recommend depending on the quality you want getting them printed off professionally at a printing store or office store, but if you want to do it all at home I would get a High dpi printer intended for printing off portrait photos. a cheap document only printer wont print as clear as you probably would like.

Its the same process you just need to change the measurements to the length width and height of the dvd case you have. 3 quick measurements with a ruler or im sure someone has the dimensions uploaded somewhere you can google "DVD case dimensions" and im sure it will come up.

if the pixel widths are still the same as when you had the project open in photoshop it should remain the same, meaning your printer might be trying to resize the image. Is there a specific reason you need to export to jpeg? you might be losing image quality to compression doing that over exporting a png.

@@SymbioticLegion Just because a company's copyright rules are not enforced, doesn't give a person the right to violate it. That person just hasn't been caught, and it'll be just a matter of time because, if a company suspects that a copyright infringement has been violated with their merchandise, logos or images have been pirated without purchasing the copyright license legally to copy their materials for any reason, the perpetrator will be sued, and prosecuted in the court of law for copyright infringement and subjected to pay a hefty penalty and possibly forced to close their business permanently by the judicial system. So, if this is what Staples is secretly doing, they are operating an illegal business practice, and breaking the law BIG TIME. Piracy is the same as counterfeiting, which is a felony. The crime consists of manufacturing and distributing patented, privately owned materials without a license purchased from the company.
@SymbioticLegion
Жыл бұрын
@@slimdude2011 Right, except something like this would be considered fan art. Which can be printed and distributed, because its not an official work from the publisher that is being reproduced, nor is it falsely claiming to be a official work. If someone was printing say an officially licensed poster and selling them without authorization, it would be infringement, as its a bootleg item. creating a individual item for personal use isn't the same thing. This is exactly why digital artists can create basically anything they want featuring any characters they want, and sell that material online and at physical locations. Otherwise you would never see independent shops carry Eva themed materials, or independent artists at conventions selling prints of Eva characters. A lawsuit of that nature would ruin them. I'm not sure the point you're trying to make or what you're trying to defend at this point, but printing off an image has never been illegal, otherwise Printer manufacturers would be at fault and would need to implement copywrite proof smart printers that refuse to print anything suspected as a protected work, and that would never happen.

I did a test print just today and the dimensions in this video are just a bit too tight. I think maybe I didn't fold it perfectly but even so, I'm going to make the front and back cover about 1/8 inch wider, 1the whole thing about 1/4 inch taller and the spine will be just about right I think (maybe 1/16 inch wider).

@@CONVERSE1991 So I should edit my original comment. I found out that Staples automatically adjusted my image "to fit" so they actually made it a little smaller than I had intended. Once I had them do it correctly, it was fine. Now my only issue is figuring out what type of paper stock to use.

That's too much work! Slipcovers are not the Sistine Chapel. If a Blu-ray or a 4K UHD movie doesn't come with a slipcover originally from the manufacturer, I'm not going to worry about it because, slipcovers are not that important. After you take into consideration the expense of buying all the materials such as: the paper, ink toner (which is very expensive) and most of all, the valuable time that's you'll invest in to do the job, it's not worth it.
@SymbioticLegion

You're right. But as a hobby its fun, never a requirement. Additionally, if you just have your work printed at a print shop, you're in for cents on the dollar for materials. You don't need anything besides a computer, scissors and glue.
