Retirement is for relaxing - doing the things you love to do, at a reasonable pace. Definitely need to remind myself of that periodically.

Cool box matching with the cellar. You have to do a jam there with this guitar!

I think decorating the cigar box is a great idea and the theme certainly works on this one. The fretboard accent color really makes the guitar pop! (A perfect match for the room decor too!) I like the different variations on the Arturo Fuente boxes. The bottom of these boxes is thinner than the top, so I flip them to get a CBG with more volume for unplugged playing.

I thought to do this with a box that hase thinner bottom than the top. But I'm hesitating, because the top is so beautiful and can't be seen as this... Did you build two guitars, with same boxes, and on of them upside down, and is the sound very different?

@@Thomatech66 Your point is well made. The trade off on a box with a beautiful top may not be worth it. Especially if you always play your CBG plugged in. It is nice to have at least one CBG that has a louder voice unplugged since they are on the quiet side unplugged compared to acoustic guitars and ukuleles. Boxes where the bottom is significantly thinner than the top will be louder; I have made plenty of CBGs with them. I also have made many where the top was too compelling to put it on the bottom. The Arturo Fuente boxes usually have a thinner bottom and a top the same thickness as the Macanudo boxes the same size (the ones Shane Speal uses) that have a thick top and bottom. The difference in volume and tone is very noticeable. I hope this helps in deciding whether to use the top or the bottom.

Thanks for the answer! I have only built three cbg's yet, all of different scale lengths. There are still so many things to experience with... I will give priority to the look of the top, there are other boxes that will have a good acoustic sound I think.

@@Thomatech66 You are welcome. There are quite a few variables to experiment with and that’s the fun of building and finding out what works for you. Lots of different ways to build a great CBG. Bridge location and whether the entire top is free floating also affect the volume of an unplugged CBG. Good luck on your future builds!
