2. The PVC doesn't help as much as you'd think. It helps keep the middle of the boat floor from getting pinched but other than that it doesn't help the stability that much. Sometimes I forget to pack the PVC in my car and the boat feels nearly the same, so still use it, but don't be afraid to use less pieces and def don't worry if you ever forget it

yeh I've done exactly as you have with marine ply 25 mm makes for very solid floor, stable boat in the water too. I think the floor helps the shape of the hull, keeps it flat, however I've tried the boat out in Scotland on a loch nearby this spring and while it perfoms well you do need a means of pumping more air in the boat if the water is cold, as the air will contract giving the appearance of it deflating.I also rigged a canopy from upvc tube too. happy boating Mark D.

Wow, I did the EXACT same thing. I cut two pieces of wood for it, covered them in plastidip. Then I wrapped the edges with pipe insulator just as you did and I put PVC under. However, I did this last summer and after many days on the water I have a few suggestions for you 1: ditch the pipe insulator and just wrap a blanket/cloth/fabric around the edges. It's much easier and protects better, the pipe insulator often came off

Hey, its 1/2 inch "blondewood", very smooth sides, only had to sand where i cut. I used valspar exterior paint, 3 coats each side. The top is covered with indoor/outdoor carpet now. Its 3/4 inch foam pipe insulation around the edge. 4 1 inch pvc pipes running underneath the floor and its super stable. I now have a pedestal seat that swivels mounted within easy reach of the trolling motor handle. Its an awesome set up, hopefully I'll have a video of it on the water soon!

Cool boat with very nice inflatable floor on which you can easily stand. Why do so many people need wooden floor ? To make boat heavier , harder to transport ? To have less space in the boot of your car ? Is it not better to then use proper aluminium or wooded boat ?

I think 38/39" side to side. I wrapped foam pipe insulation around the ends of the pvc. I'm actually going to try the boat without the pvc bc I've seen a lit if videos without it and their boats seen more stable

Forget the minn kota brother. That battery powered motor will get you no where. Get yourself a 1.5HP 2 stroke motor. Harder to find, but well worth it.

Hey guys I thought we should have an official Facebook group to ask questions about the Intex Excursion 5 and to show/explain these types of mods. facebook.com/groups/excursion5. So far I've done trolling motor and bimini. Doing plywood floor this week (4x8 cut into 3 pieces 32" each X 36" width (before trimmed down). Will do seats shortly too (still deciding which ones).

I just bought a 2019 intex excursion boat and am building a floor! By now you have had six years to make final modifications! You did a great neat job!. Did you prefer two pieces instead of one for the plywood floor? What did you do about the space in the middle? or is it just easier to remove two floor boards, I guess. I like the PVC stabilizer rods. Great idea. That floor should not move a bit. One last observation. Is there a reason you did not put foam insulation around the entire floor board? Looks great though. You must have been the forerunner of these ideas since is was 2013 when you got the boat. 6 years have gone by and I am wondering how happy or not you are with the Excursion? Thanks for the ideas. Have a great summer.

Hey! So, I didn't have this boat very long. It ended up being bigger than what I needed at the time. I quickly went to the Mariner 4. I did a 2 piece floor only because of space constraints, if I could I would have done a 1 piece. I didn't use foam around it all because I sanded it so smooth I didn't think I needed it. I've have 6 different boats since then, trying out new things.... Good luck with yours!

Hey, good job on your mods. I am ordering a Excursion 5 in a couple of weeks. I was thinking of just cutting plywood to fit and laying it down without the PVC pipes. What are your thoughts on that. Also if I plan on using the PVC piping on the flooring, What did you do to the ends of the pipe to keep them from rupturing the hull? One more thing, What is the width from side to side of the plywood? Thanks

+Michael Giannace the boat itself goes for 127 via amazon. the seat you can find for around 30 bucks. plus the mounting swivel and accessories call it 50. ply wood is fairly cheap as well. carpet also cheap. foam edges cheap. doesnt add THAT much more weight to the boat. I have a 4 and have only added about 125 pounds of material to it. works well. and removable. i still deflate and store my boat with no problems. and all materials fit well in the back of my honda accord. :D

+Frank Delacruz Do yo remember the exact dimensions of the wood I tried it last week to cut the wood and was off on the dimension. I had homedepot cut 96X46 and then cut it 1/2 so I had the two pieces the hardest part was the Front and the edges. I am no carpenter but did manage to get it cut so they would fit
