Steve Maxwell and Maxwell Exotics is as good as anyone out there, Singer Porsche not withstanding. There were simply too many upgrades and modifications made to capture on video. I have hundreds of in-process and before/after photos. For every change and modification, Steve visualized the effect and engineered the outcome. Steve's ability to visualize every detail to have a completely updated and modernized car a joy to watch. No short cuts and no waste. Amazing!

@@omd_sd OMG You replied ^^ I also want to add that these mods You made are like polishing a rough diamond that XJ220 is. I'm a car guy and I love mechanical mods without destroying car's looks (we call it OEM+ in Europe). XJ220 is stunning as it is, it just needs a bit technical upgrades! Have a good one SIR !!

I still remember having a Hot Wheels or Matchbox model of this car...mid-90's, the XJ220 was still relatively recent... Always loved the design and all its quirks and features, like Doug DeMuro would say. 😄 Loved the Turbo V6 too, although...I'd love to see someone crazy enough to actually throw a 7.0L V12 Jaguar in there and sort of build an actual street, "production" version of the original concept...how wicked that would be. 👀

I remember the launch of these cars back in the 90s, they look as bonkers now as they did back then! Glad to see you're bringing it up to date sympathetically, I can think of few better places than OMD for this work.

A hero car of my youth. I remember the delays and the 'downgrades' before it was released to the public. I still would've liked the V12 engine (hence the huge engine bay) but the V6 made the car lighter. It's always been a kind of a mythical supercar, but it was, and still is, a really special car. It aged really well also, because it doesn't look like a 30 year old car at all. The mods are perfectly executed and compliment the car. The details are spot on. This particular car is a true gem and an absolute classic. Can you believe that this 'old car' beats a much newer Pagani Zonda in a drag race? What's the ultimate goal? More performance, practical use or mostly showcar?

It was always a very special car to me growing up! I remember thinking it was crazy beautiful in Gran Turismo 5 haha. The biggest thing we are aiming for is a practical car that can be driven!

From our experience toyo r888r tyres are not good! Used them on track and they de-laminated after not many laps. Toyo blamed this on heat cycles and blah blah. They were on a ford fiesta with 150bhp 😂. Suffice it to say we swapped for nankang ar1s and hammered it next time out with no regard for 'heat cycling' the tyres and had no problems whatsoever, very little but even wear and if anything, more grip! I'm not sure why so many people rave about these tyres when from experience they are so poor? I encourage you to try this for yourself (probably not on the xj220 though) 😅

We've used them a lot as well and haven't had issues. Worn multiple sets well past wear bars on track and off with no problems. Sorry that happened for you though, and if the Nankang tires worked better, then power to ya! I'll keep it in mind for the future

Those wheels look really nice. I intend to own an XJ220 within the next few years and was thinking about how I'd love to have some custom wheels made that kind of resemble the originals but with a kind of modern look to them. This has given me some ideas. Thanks. If I wanted to have a more modern looking dash, how would you go about doing that? I'd want to keep all the original parts so that I could put it back to stock if I wanted. Could you create something that would fit nicely that could be swapped back again if I wanted?
@omd_sd
Жыл бұрын
It's possible. OEM style dashboards use large injection mould machines, but you can certainly make something that fits and looks good. Carbon would be possible or an aluminum racing style dashboard covered in leather or alcantara.

How do you guys get approval from a customer for jobs like this that take months to complete? Most people have no patience and want their car back asap. Not only do you have to get a blank check for money, you also need a blank check for time.
@omd_sd

That's a good question haha. Every person is different in terms of patience, and I think covid really threw a wrench in the works that's still felt today. This car specifically the client had very few options to get it running again so he's been quite patient.
