Easy Lift Equipment - Customer Guide - CG-PHDF Pony Hold-Down & Foot Customer Installation
When handling heavy plastic, fiber, or tapered drums it may be necessary to add either a pony hold-down or foot support to reduce the risk of slippage of the drum within the clamping jaws. The pony hold-down and foot installation can be easily completed by the customer on-site. The following video is a step-by-step Customer Installation guide of that process.
Both the CR and FCR clamps include mounting tabs on each of the left and right clamping jaws. Each mounting tab has two pre-drilled and tapped locations for easy installation of the pony hold-down and/or foot.
Prior to beginning, it’s important to know, unless customized, the Pony Hold-Down can only be mounted on the left side of the Clamp (from the Operator’s perspective). Because of this, when installing both the Pony hold-down and Foot, it is recommended to install the Pony Hold-Down on the left side of the clamp first, prior to installing the Foot.
The pony-hold down provides support to the top of a drum to help reduce the risk of slippage when the drum is being rotated.
(2) 5/16-18 x ¾ long Hex Head Cap Screws and (2) 5/16 Lock washers will be required to install the Pony hold-down.
If necessary, use a 5/16-18 tap to clean out any debris within the (2) mounting holes.
Then, place the pony hold-down again the left side mounting tab, ensuring that the tube is facing up and the back side of the mounting angle is flush against the front side of the mounting tab, as seen here.
Install and fully tighten down the hardware to secure the pony hold down in place.
To adjust the pony hold-down onto a drum, pull the adjustment tab on the stainless-steel pony head up and move the head up or down as needed.
Seen here is an example of the pony hold-down being used during a drum dumping application.
Unlike the Pony hold-down, which can only be mounted onto the left side of the Clamp, the Foot is interchangeable and can be mounted on either side of the Clamp.
So, if installing both, ensure that the Pony hold-down has already been installed at this point prior to installing the Foot.
(2) 5/16-18 x 3/4 Hex Head Cap Screws and (2) 5/16 Lock Washers will be required to install the Foot.
If necessary, use a 5/16-18 tap to clean out any debris within the (2) mounting holes.
Place the Foot ‘Hold Mount’ against the mounting tab, ensuring that the back side of the ‘Hold Mount’ angle is flush against the front side of the mounting tab on the Clamping Jaw, as seen here.
Install and fully tighten down the hardware to secure the foot hold-mount into place.
Once mounted, install the Foot ‘Rod and Foot’ into the ‘Hold-Mount’ from below, so the ‘Foot’ rests underneath the Clamping Jaw, as seen here.
When not in use, the foot rests parallel outside the clamping jaw to enable unimpeded clamping of a drum from a pallet.
After clamping and lifting the drum you can adjust the positioning of the Foot up or down as well as rotate it into position by, first, securely gripping the rod above the clamp, this is important. Then, pulling the spring-loaded plunger out. Failure to hold the rod when pulling the spring-loaded plunger, may result in the rod and foot falling out of the foot hold-mount. Once the plunger has been pulled out, slide the Rod and Foot up or down as needed and re-install the plunger into the appropriate rod setting.
There are 3 plunger settings towards the top side of the Rod, for use during drum-dumping applications. There is 1 plunger setting, towards the bottom of the rod, to secure the foot close to the clamping jaw while the Foot is not being used.
Both the pony hold-down and foot are constructed in stainless-steel for cleanliness and durability.
The Foot helps reduce the risk of slippage of the drum within the clamping jaws when raising a drum.
