If you have the WSS fault in these trucks where the ABS gives unwanted modulation at low speed, it is caused by rust at the point where the WSS mounts in the hub. It is usually not rust inside the bore, it is rust scale on the mounting pad under the WSS, the rust scale lifts the WSS up in the bore a few thousandths, and that is enough to increase the gap at the tone ring, which causes the fault. That is how it happened to my truck. First take a die grinder to open up the window in the splash shield so you can get an allen wrench (4 or 5mm, I forget which one) in there without pulling the brakes off. Then remove the WSS, put an old ear plug in the bore to keep it clean, totally descale the mounting pad to clean metal. Apply your favorite anti corrosion goo (I like LPS-3 or CRC Marine Corrosion Protector). If there was rust inside the bore too then you probably could not get the WSS out without destroying it and you'll need to descale inside the bore too. But once you get it all together with a clean mounting pad and a good WSS then it should work. Apply anti corrosion compound to the whole thing to keep it trouble free, especially if it is not giving you trouble just yet, because it will eventually. GM had a recall for this problem.

BTW look at where the WSS sensor cable loops up close to the inside edge of the wheel, if your wheels are balanced with sticky weights then that blocky shaped object stuck to the inside of the wheel is flying right past the cable as the wheel turns. If your wheels have sticky weights then it pays to take a zip tie and secure the WSS cable to the upper control arm, not tightly, leave it loose so it can move when the steering turns, tie it off just enough to pull the cable away from the wheel.

I've seen loose hub bolts only once before. Pathfinder came in for a knock noise up front. Found that they had DIY replaced both hubs a few months prior and didn't tighten the left side side bolts, right side wasn't too bad. Bolts were not obviously loose like these ones were though.

On my Chevy truck the bolts did not ever come loose. But when I went to do front end work the hub assemblies were so rusted into the knuckle bores that I could have continued to drive the truck in complete safety with all the bolts taken out. It took hours of heating with a rosebud torch, extreme hammering and chiseling to get them to budge, both sides.

@@punker4Real It did. The other crazy thing was I replaced all 4 ball joints in addition to hubs on both sides, it took hours of heat and hammering to finish the job. Then I said there's no way this front end is going to not need alignment after all that, so I took it to a shop, they put it on their alignment rack, and came back in a few minutes with a printout and my keys. They handed them to me and said the front end is all in spec, no charge. I was amazed, not only that no alignment was needed but the honestly of that shop. I would have paid a minimum charge for the shop time it took to put it on the rack, but they said no charge, so that was cool.

Always wonder how those cute little bolts hold a wheel bearing with a wheel and tire hanging out in space and a few tons of truck on top, when there’s two or three times the amount of fasteners just keeping the wheel in place against the hub. I think I’d rather have that nice big axle with a 2” nut on it.
