I love this. Was struggling with a rig with this very same problem this past week. I thought about doing it the way you have suggested, but wasn't sure if it was common practice. So you have made me feel confident in doing this from now on :)

Great tips. The peg-gate FK-IK (forward kinematics-inverse kinematics) also works in that it uses a switch to shift between FK and IK for limbs. This technique that you demonstrated is very practical and works well. Can you do a video in the future on complex face/head Master Controller Grid Wizard. I find with complex faces and heads, when you want to make a grid wizard (which AUTOMATICALLY interpolates - there's no way around this) it requires hours of posing out each pose and spacing them close together along the grid wizard. Hopefully Toon Boom makes some tweaks to the Grid Wizard MC in Toon Boom Harmony Premium 23 (which is hopefully dropping soon-ish).

Hi thanks! and ya if the rig has those switches it makes it waay easier to plant the feet. Alot of the rigs that I have used at the studios I work don't usually have them, I guess it a time saving thing. And ya sure, As of right now, I don't think there is a way to get around creating every head pose manually, but the newer versions of toonboom make it alittle easier to edit the controllers if you make a mistake. Check out this video, maybe it will help kzitem.info/news/bejne/qqGpmH9pcmp9mYI Part 4 and 5 cover the mastercontrollers.

When I use onion skins, some of the layers disappear. Unusable for me in cutout animation. Have you had this problem? And how did you show only line art?@@fabio_gioffre

What about when the character is walking? Should we not move the master peg along the X axis?
@fabio_gioffre
11 ай бұрын
Ya it's a little more complicated with a walk but I find as long as you keep the master leg movement along the X axis and not up and down, it should be ok. I can make another video explaining in more detail

@TatiHardt

@@fabio_gioffre No, I mapped out the steps first to be sure the spacing was constant during the walk. I don't find walk cycles very useful, to be honest.

I am managing to do it now, but in each keyframe that the foot should be planted I have to go back and forward with a super zoom to be sure that it's always in the same place.
