Could you do a video installing the roof irons? We don’t use them but I’ve always thought they’re a good idea!

Yeah sure I can do that 👍 We have a pretty full schedule over the next couple of weeks, but I shall find some time to pull something together. I will drop a comment when it's uploaded 😊

The two slates balanced on the roof irons could give the operative below without a hard had a sore one; maybe!

@willbee6785 the slates on the heals of the roof irons are tacked in place with a nail to stop them moving anywhere. That still doesn't take away the fact the joiner should have had a hard hat on going underneath into the building.

If it looks easy the guy is good 👍🏻 What’s the metal hook called that holds your Scaff board?

The metal brackets are what we call "roof irons". There is a spike that we drive into the timber sarking boards to secure them. They are traditional method used in Scotland.

@@mfroofing9963 thank you for that. I’ve been looking for a set to strip and fix my own slate roof in Scotland. I do flat and metal standing seem roofs ( never done a full slate or tiled roof) and have asked the odd slater I’ve met what they metal “irons” are called and they usually say “it’s just metal brackets mate” 😂😅 So that reply is appreciated. Think I’ve found a set to buy online 👍🏻👍🏻

Generally speaking. How long does Slate last vs regular tar shingles?
@mfroofing9963

@user-xw3mk2mh3f A good quality slate can last hundreds of years. A useful life cycle of a slate roof (depending on the installation and weathering) Could be 100-140 years. At that point, if the slate is a good quality can be recycled and reused to re roof. We don't work with tar shingles, so I'm not in a position to comment on the life span/expectation how long they will last.
