Hi ya'll, this is Jef at the Welch Family Homestead and Smoky Mountain Custom Doors. As you all know, I source my material here in the Great Smoky Mountains. Although we have our own sawmill on the farm, I have awesome neighbors that have a vintage circular sawmill that has been in their family for generations. And it is still in operation.
Today's video is without words, and just the pleasantry of watching hard working men do what they do best, turning logs into beautiful, usable material, lumber.
Today we are working on some tulip poplar. I needed some boards and they accommodated my request. Watching Mr. Aldridge and his crew is like going back in time when I was growing up. It brings back memories. He talks about his father, (which I met years ago) who ran the sawmill before they did. The Aldridge farm is just down the road from the Welch Family Homestead, and we are blessed to have such solid, quality neighbors.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy watching the sawmill slice through these logs like a knife through hot butter. My dog, Fontana, acts like he owns the place. You'll spot him running around and trying to be supervisor.
