Spent a week at horseshoe bay, the north coast. Loved it.

Cycling the Bruce wouldn't be much fun but everything else you show looks great. It's always special to see koala in the wild.👌✌️

Yeah, the Bruce is unfortunate, but in our case it just had to be done. When we lived in the Otways we would see koalas a couple of times a week. They'd sometimes hang out in our back garden and there were lots of them on the mountain bike trails. Still love em. 🐨

Top video! Really enjoying your journey. Yep. Know Magnetic Island, or 'Maggie' as the locals call it.. Work many years ago used to take me to Townsville on a regular basis. When time permitted used to head over there. Good to see it again!

You haven't seen me for a while. I have actually retired from bicycle touring 63yo not out but... pushing a pushbike is too hard for me now, just doing up to 300km trips around home, Have gone back to motorcycle touring, with my dog as usual. Bought an RE Himalayan, just been breaking in the bike getting thru the initial services, so we ( my dog Milo)and I can start my last tour around Australia. Have enjoyed your series, and will keep on following you guys for a little while longer again. When you stopped touring, I stopped watching, but you are back now in this series, so will be viewing as many vlogs as you put out again. all the best cheers.

Good to hear from you, mate! The Himalayan looks like a great bike. I've had it on my radar for a long time in case the bicycle touring doesn't work out! You'll have a great time on your lap with Milo. Get in touch if you decide to pass through the Atherton Tablelands!

Haha, she sure does! She loves her t-shirts! She got me one by the same company that had a cycling moose (my favorite abimal), but it's getting pretty old and grubby now... Cheers Linda! -D

I'm distressed how you guys have to go on busy roads... but enjoy the otherwise relaxed nature of your journeying. Sorry about the punctured inflatables! A top video, and very enticing for us southerners.

Thanks so much! Yes, it's really unfortunate that we had to spend so much time on the Nruce Highway. There are other ways north that are much better cycling, but we were trying to join the dots between things we wanted to see/do. Thanks again!

Excellent editing of your videos! You don't dwell to long and cut scense to short. Most of all, you give a realistic impression of bike touring here in Australia. May I suggest to you guys when riding the shoulders of those busy roads, to attach a red (LED) strobe light to the back of your helmet. It is often more visible to motorist than the lower placed bike rear licht.

Thanks so much, Ron! That's super kind of you to say! My editing isn't very "flashy" and I try to keep it simple, but I DO put a lot of work into subtle things that make things flow better overall. It's nice to have someone actually notice! 😁 Funnily enough, I actually had a red blinky on the back of my helmet earlier in the tour. I'd use it occasionally on busy roads or at night, but it connected via a magnet, that although convenient, wasn't very secure. I ended up losing it one night while camping. 😒 I'll definitely pick one up again in future! Thanks again!

Just a question Dave. What panniers do you use? Have loved every episode of your QLD trip. Now will go the your first vid and watch all your adventures
@VeloObscura
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Brett! The older episodes are pretty rough. Episode one of this series was the first video I'd ever filmed & edited in my whole life, so I didn't have much idea what I was doing. With that aside, it was also probably the most adventurous part of the trip - especially the Nullarbor section - so if you can get over the dodgy camerawork, dodgy editing and dodgy music, then there's some cool stuff in there. I think the videos really started improving once we got to Tassie. I use the Ortlieb Back Roller Plus panniers. They've been rock solid for the entire trip, plus various commuting and grocery-hauling duties in-between. If you buy a set, I would recommend removing the bolts one by one and applying a good dose of Loctite to them. I feel like nearly everyone who uses them (myself included - and Bonnie!) have had a bolt vibrate out. Once the Loctite is in there - no issues! Cheers!

Hey Dave and Bonnie, have really enjoyed following your journey up the east coast. I recently picked up a touring bike and was wondering what you guys would use most frequently in terms of navigation.. in other words is it worth investing in a GPS unit or would I get away with just a phone. Would probably be doing similar routes to what you guys have been doing, not going out into real remote inland country. Cheers
@VeloObscura
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Eamonn! We were using a Wahoo Elemnt at the time, but it got broken, so we have since upgraded to a Wahoo Elemnt Roam - I believe they just updated it again though. It has much better battery life for navigation than my phone and is much tougher built. I definitely prefer using it over a phone. I generally map the route as we go using my phone and then sync it to the Wahoo. I'll be making a video in the near future about how we navigate, so stay tuned! 😁

hang on!!! At 13.42 you cycle through a town called "Rollingstone" and make no mention?
@VeloObscura
Жыл бұрын
Should we have? 😅 Rollingstone is where Bushy Park is. That's the general store we went to the day before.... Not much there other than the store I'm afraid. We got told by a bunch of people on the way there that there was a great creek to swim in, but we weren't too impressed by it. It was under a highway bridge and not particularly pretty. We couldn't show it because there were a bunch of topless girls hanging out in it. 🤣
