I crashed in exactly the same spot this past summer! My crash was much worse. I went over the handlebars. Fortunately, I landed on my head, so there was no damage other than to my ego. The guy in the booth who operates the bridge witnessed my accident and came out of the booth screaming at me. I now always walk my bike across the bridge at the Corinth/Loutraki end of the canal and the similar bridge at the Isthmia end of the canal. I watched another cyclist zoom across the bridge at the Isthmia end of the canal without incident. I applauded him and yelled "Bravo!". He replied, "Yes, it's very dangerous."

Good to hear, that nothing happened! But I feel you, my ego was also quite hurt 😆 I was really afraid one of the operates would start yelling at me but luckily he just ignored me - I wonder how often biker crash there 😜

@@UntraveledRoadsOfficial There are prominent signs in Greek and in English warming of the danger, so I have no doubt that crashes occur frequently. The cyclist I mentioned in my previous comment was on a road racing bike. He zipped across the bridge at probably 30 km/h, maybe faster. The local cyclists must view the bridge as a challenge.

Dude are you crazy? Riding a bike in Athens at night is suicidal. You are underrated and wish you to get more recognition in the upcoming months. Hope you enjoyed these horrific roads😆 Greetings from Greece.

You probably also passed from Kiato, my hometown. Lovely video, brings back memories.

hehe, I remember Kiato because from there on I started to look for a wild camping spot that day, which was pretty hard because after Kiato there are a lot of villages near the sea. Beautiful town and area though! Thank you for the comment 🙏😊

I hadn't thought of taking the ferries to get between Corinth and Athens via Salamina. Last summer, I used the Proastiakos commuter train to get from Athens to Corinth with my bike.
@UntraveledRoadsOfficial

I was researching a bit the trains, is it possible to take the bike in all kind of trains or just regional trains? I don't know why but I love ferries so it was perfect, also the ride on the island was pretty nice - except that it got dark 😊

@@UntraveledRoadsOfficial On the Proastiakos commuter trains, they allow bikes, but there are no bike racks. I stood on the steps just inside the door with my bike standing on its rear wheel. The ride from Athens to Corinth was about one hour. The line to Corinth continues further west to Kiato. A branch to Loutraki is under of construction, but it is anyone's guess when it will be completed.

@@UntraveledRoadsOfficial You'll be disappointed by the train network. From Athens, the commuter rail service will only get you as far as Kiato, which is just west of Corinth. There are short commuter lines that operate around Patras and Olympia, but there is no comprehensive service.

Amazing trip! Bummer about the bridge! Sounded like a relief when you arrived in Athens! I wish I could do this but cycling gives me a sore bum and bad knees 😫 look forward to the next part!

I noticed so many roads had no shoulders. If I get to Europe I plan on riding the Euro Velo trails. In 2016 I did ride the old Route 66, from Chicago to Santa Monica. Had some rough patches too. No one should ever ride the Cajon Pass.

How nice, how was the ride? One of my long wished projects to make some tours in the US for example the Route 66. Really cool! The Euro velo trails are really nice, not necessarily really built with bike lanes but the routes are really cool.

@@UntraveledRoadsOfficial It was a great ride, likely the best I will have because I am now 65 yrs. A few places of bad road and traffic, but mostly good road and little traffic. And a great way to see America and go through various geographies. I went September/October, about 80 to 100 km every day for about 6 weeks. I went with Bicycle Adventure Club.

Hi Dan 👋 Thank you and I am really happy that you found some inspiration in my videos. It is always good to hear in helps people, no matter in which way. Looking forward to seeing some of your videos. Any estimated date for when you will start publishing? 😀 I would really love to cross the ocean and cycle there. Did you fly with the bike or did you take a ship to come go to Canada from Scotland? Did you use the same setup for Canada or did some changes? I am thinking Alaska could be colder and I can imagine really wild areas with challenging gravel passages, but I know nothing about it, so just assumptions 😜

@@UntraveledRoadsOfficial my KZitem channel is fedsmachine@danfedder (www.youtube.com/@danfedder/videos). The best thing is to fly with your bike . Pick up a cardboard bike box in a local shop from the place you are flying from. They are usually free.It is really expensive to send them separately. I have been touring since June so lots to catch up with in terms of vids to finish. Have a look at some of my other bike vids. Zanskar Cycle tour is one of the best. We were in the Arctic this June along the Dempster Hwy. Amazing. Here is my friends vid of our trip. kzitem.info/news/bejne/yqB6tmV9sKB-aaw. I use different wheels for rougher trips vs roads

What time of the year would you recommend to go bike packing in Greece? Would august or July be too hot for a novice like me
@UntraveledRoadsOfficial
4 ай бұрын
It really depends on your body and your self but August can be quite brutal heat wise. I’d recommend to protect your skin with some biking rashes to ensure no sunburn. Usually the heat feels less on the bike when you ride along the coast
