I am Vietnamese living in the States since 1979. I enlisted in the Marines 1983, and stationed in Okinawa 1985. Taiwan terrains look similar to Okinawa. I really wish to biking around Việt Nam and countries of Asians but I am too old for this kind of adventure. Thank you guys

Li ho 👋😁 I just finished my very first bicycle tour in Hokkaido. I know the feeling of being rained on... not good but always in good spirit. RAIN, Thunder storms, typhoons winds and earthquakes changed most my planned routes in Hokkaido... thankful I'm still alive and my hotel didn't collapse. Stranded in Chitose Airport after earthquake for 3 nights and 4 days and 1 day in Korea (Typhoon was hitting home in Guam). Taiwan looks beautiful! NICE! That will be on my list of places to bicycle tour. Thuong will have a great experience to learn from and look back at how beautiful and fun it was despite the rain and climbs. I wish my wifey could experience this too.. we're total opposites in adventures. JaYoe my friends and be safe and enjoy the beautiful Taiwan 👍😁 Loving your videos!

Welcome back! Glad to hear you were able to stay safe during the Hokkaido tour! I'm sure it made for a pretty unforgettable experience.. Taiwan is a great place for cycling and highly recommended if you have a chance to go. Thuong also did a great job and was able to push past new limits (mostly against her own will though haha).

There lies a long mountain from north to south on the east coast called 海岸山脈. So I would choose highway 9 for no climbing XD. Actually the view of highway 9 are pretty good too, lots of green rice fields. And yes, you will hear lots of 加油 (頑張る) if you are ridding a bike with full equpment. I also heard that sometimes on the road XD. BTW, You are lucky having a wife that can do cycling with you together!
@TwoWheelCruise

That long mountain range is pretty massive.. We actually switch to highway 9 on day 2, and it was pretty nice as well, but we had a headwind / rain for most of the ride unfortunately :( Great to hear so many people cheering on cyclists! It's never happened to me here in Japan :/

Great to see you traveling along the east coast of Taiwan. On your way to Taitung tomorrow, there're few scenic bike routes where you may consider to pay a visit : "玉富自行車道 ", "關山環鎮自行車道", and "武陵綠色隧道". You may ask some locals to point out the location on the map in advance. Wish you and your wife enjoy your ride in the rest days in Taiwan.

Yeah, the extra weight was tough for her.. We took most of the weight out of hers and put it in mine for day 2
I did this exact route with 2 other friends 3 years ago! We were a lot less fit compared to you guys though, it took us 14 hours to finish day 1 to Ruisui, biked along the mountain road in the dark (so lucky we didn't get punctures or hit by a car).

Great job enduring by Thuong - she can really hang in there. What is your approach/strategy for nutrition on a ride like that. It is probably second nature for you but you seem to have defined intervals for breaks/snacks. What is your ride / break schedule like? or what do you shoot for so you don't bonk inadvertently?

Great video! I noticed you two always eat and drink outside 7-11. I know 7-11, Lawson or FamilyMart in Japan, you can only eat and drink outside the store, but in Taiwan, almost all of 7-11, FamilyMart, HiLife allows you to eat, drink or take some rest at their stores. Most of these stores offer tables and chairs, so you can sit and enjoy your lunch boxes and drinks. When you visit Taiwan next time, you should take advantage of it.
@TwoWheelCruise
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! 😀 Actually, tables for eating inside convenience stores is common in Japan now as well. We used them a few times during our Taiwan trip, but in this video, it was too cold with the AC, so we chose to eat outside where it was a bit warmer
@nk-cycle-vlog

Indeed, sometimes AC of those convenience stores is too cold, especially when you're wet after a long rainy ride. Good decision!

Wow that is really convenient with the Train luggage delivery service for Taiwan. I'm assuming it's just the main Train stations as drop off/ pick up points? I used the Yamato luggage service in Japan but then you need a contact person and their phone number if you are shipping to a lodging. At 1420 Yen it seemed expensive but for the weight it's rather cheap. But the true saving was not having to pay the extra 4000 Yen for checked luggage round trip and saving my Back haha.
@TwoWheelCruise
6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it was awesome! I think the cheap solution is only main stations, but they do direct to lodging as well for more money.. definitely can be used to save money like that 😉

I know, late coming in again. Still playing catch up. It seems that cycling in Taiwan is excellent. I'm amazed at the bike paths on main highways. May I make a suggestion, please? This is obviously in two parts, but I couldn't find the second part. Is there anyway when you make these videos, that you put both parts together on one video please. It would only be about a half hour in length total, Just a suggestion. It would be easier for your audience, Much mahalo!!

[11:11] I believe you are here [ 23°46'02.9"N 121°33'39.0"E ], if I were right, there is a pathway just on where Thuong standed which could lead you to the beautiful beach [11:19] composed by gravel and 4M high spray and most wonderful is there's a little hostel beside the beach, you could order a room or have a camping. Since you are high, it's about 150m-200m high between you and the beach.

Two Wheel Cruise Mostly old people who are over 80 years old. There are also some remote aboriginal towns that even younger generation still can speak Japanese because Japanese is still used in their everyday conversations mixed with Mandarin and Native languages/Formosan. Since Eastern Taiwan is high in concentration of old people and aboriginal population, you may more likely find “native”Japanese speakers.
