By the way I saw a famous surfer at Doheny Beach on my way home. His name is Mickey Munoz and he's done it all! 83 years old and he was heading out to the waves with his board!

Great stuff Ron. I liked those shots as you left Alaska on that ferry. Any chance you took the drone with you? You had great drone shots in Florida. Keep pedaling.

What made you take the ferry from Valdez rather than cycle? Just being curious

Hey there Luke! No worries and appreciate the question. So at the time when we flew to Alaska, the US and Canadians officials had just announced they were keeping the border closed for at least another month. This was just a couple days before flying, so at that time we committed to taking the Alaskan Ferry from Valdez to Bellingham, Washington. The ferry took 4 days and 8 hours and we took the inland passage. We pitched our tent up in the Solarium deck and enjoyed the ride. They call it the, "Poor Man's Cruise", but we enjoyed it and had a great experience. The plan is to either return to Fairbanks and cycle through Canada and take the Great Divide Route or cycle the Dempster Highway and then pick up the Great Divide Route after we are done with this trip. We'll see. Take care and happy adventures!! ~Ron & Petra

Hello Tony and thank you for following along and for your question! At the time when we started our adventure in Deadhorse, the US and Canada borders were still closed and being reviewed monthly, as to, open or remained closed. So before flying we committed to taking the ferry from Valdez to Bellingham. The price for the ferry was not cheap and the closer you purchased the tickets to the sail date, the more expensive they became. So we committed a couple months out to taking the ferry, not wanting to chance the borders still being closed. The other, cheaper and faster option was to fly from Anchorage, but taking the ferry sounded like a great time and not something we would probably ever do again. We do plan on flying back to Alaska though and cycling through Canada and most likely the Great Divide Route, which is something we really want to experience. However, we need to make it to Ushuaia first. :-) Take care and happy adventures!! ~Ron & Petra
