If 120 degrees is a requirement, then why is cyclopropenium aromatic but not cyclodecapentaene? Genuinely curious here. Also, why are some pentagonal molecules (e.g. the side chain of Tryptophan) also aromatic of their angles aren't quite 120 degrees either? Great video!

Good question! I gues the 5 sided molecules come close enough to 120 degrees, however, why cyclopropenium (the cation thereof anyways) would be aromatic, seems weird to me.

I really wish other fields had instructors like this who have such a useful online presence. This channel's great.

Hey! Just wanted to let you know that the end of your Organic Basics playlist has a random best of 2021 video from another channel. Not sure you may have added it on accident. Thanks for the informative video!!

Thanks for the heads up. The result of an errant click I'm sure. I'll be sure to remove it, but I do have to admit I love those guys from viva la dirt League 🤭

Excuse me, I just want to ask a question that I'm afraid is not remotely connected to this video. I'm currently working my way through your Chemistry and Our Universe lecture series on Amazon (I'm really enjoying it by the way, though finding it very challenging as I never studied chemistry beyond GCSE and I'm watching it purely for enjoyment without the aid of textbooks or anything!). Anyway, in episode 43 (Nuclear Chemistry and Radiation) you said that Thorium emits a beta particle, converting a neutron into a proton, and thus becoming palladium. Should it not become protactinium? It sounds like it might be a typo (or verbal equivalent), but as a total chemistry beginner it seems more likely to me that there's something fundamental that I'm simply missing here. Could you shed any light on this for me please?

you, sir, are the first person in 7 years to catch that slip (at least to make it public). kudos on catching one of the rare errata in that course. Here's a hint... two others have been foud and brought to my attention... can you find them?! B-)
