An excellent upload. Thanks Jack! CS were a cracking band, who I got to introduced to by the manager of a now defunct independent record shop in Sutton, back in '97. He played me 'The Circle' & I was sold. Probably the easiest sale he made. 'Stupas' is a a very good album & for me, stands the test of time to now. I then had the privilege of seeing them on numerous occasions in London. Largely through the excellent Sean Organ of Org records, who was their manager, & champion of many UK underground rock, punk, hardcore, & more genre crossing scenes & bands of the 90's (& before the 90's & after). I saw them supporting Stuck Mojo, The Jesus Lizard, & numerous headline shows of their own. Several of which had the great Earthtone9 in support, & bands like Miocene, Breed 77 & Redhead. CS were an excellent live band. Tight, heaps of energy, & the songs sounded even better in that environment. (I love the sound of the album though). After 'Stupas', they put out 'The Circle' EP, which had two excellent new (at the time) songs, 'Pro-tection' & 'Clone The Clowns', which for me, were even better than the material on 'Stupas'. For me it was very exciting to hear, & signified their musical & songwriting growth. I hoped album 2 wouldn't be far behind, but they seemed to disappear not long after. I always felt that bands in the UK would be taken a little more seriously, if they had a track on the Kerrang, Metal Hammer (& slightly later on) Rocksound compilation CD's that would often come free with the magazines. At that time, with the growing "Nu-metal" scene, many fans would immediately take to the American bands that Kerrang would cover, & the UK bands were always a hard sell. (Not that I felt that CS were "Nu-metal") Earthtone9 broke this cycle, & broke themselves into the public concience, by having a track on a sampler, as did the likes of Miocene, Mahumodo & more, but Sean didn't have the 2k necessary to buy CS onto one (which was what it cost to buy yourself onto the Kerrang sampler). 'The Circle' would've been huge in the rock scene of the day - had they put that on a sampler - ,& would have definitely piqued more interest in them, & maybe kept them around longer, had they had that level of exposure Earthone9 supported them at the Barfly@The Monarch, for one of the KBY - Keiths Back Yard nights, playing immediately before CS. The crowd grew huge before ET9, they played their own sampler track 'Withered', & it seemed the crowd had all come for that song. Most of the crowd left after ET9, which meant many people missed (in my point of view at the time) the better band. CS didn't let it phase them, & put on a great show, as if they were playing to a much larger audience. They were nice guys too. Humble & friendly, & always happy to have a chat. I still have their CD's & listen to them to this day. Still have a couple of their t-shirts too. That's my boring story. If anyone knows what these guys did beyond that, it would be great to hear. Cheers again Jack, this is a great album to put on at work. (No CD player there anymore)
