Glad to see that you're back and making videos. I always find your analysis videos among the most comprehensive. Hope to see more videos from you in the very near future, keep up the great work! 👍

Paladin weaknesses are also lack of a ranged attack (usually dumped dex for other things, so even ranged weapons are lacking), lack of crowd control (except conquest, who have great crowd control) or aoe damage. Paladins are great against single opponents, particularly vengeance. Paladins issues are they are so ASI dependent, that it makes it even harder to spend on feats, if you are using a point buy or standard array. Even so, things like Great Weapon Master, Polearm Master, Sentinel and Shield Master, are so strong, depending on your play style, that paladins still end up taking them. I would, personally, throw in there Resilient (Constitution) since without it, it's going to be difficult for a paladin to maintain concentration (and look over just HOW many paladin spells require concentration!). Really enjoy your videos, just subscribed.

I have been toying with the idea of a Half Elven Oath of Ancients paladin, to level 7 or 8 (for the ASI), then going Arch Fey Warlock, for 12 or 13 levels. It just seems to me, that the themes of a "nature's champion" work with both. You take Tatiania, the Summer Queen of the Seelie Court, for your patron. I tend to sort of write the backstory of the character, in my mind, first, then come up with the character who fits the story. Tatiana is Chaotic Good and very friendly with elves, centaurs, dryads, satyrs, etc and all things of nature. Being a warlock would also solve a lot of the paladin's problems with both ranged attacks and spell slots.

Love the Paladin, and I’m going to choose the Oath of Vengeance.

Btw, just listened to this again. I think you are missing out on the potential for Relentless Avenger ( "When you hit a creature with an opportunity attack, you can move up to half your speed immediately after the attack and as part of the same reaction. This movement doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks)." You ask "will I actually be able to make any kind of use of this?" If a paladin has the polearm master feat, they will definitely be able to use this. Remember the second part of the polearm master feat: "While you are wielding a glaive, halberd, pike, quarterstaff, or spear, other creatures provoke an opportunity attack from you when they enter your reach." I have a vengeance paladin with PAM and that second part of the feat provides a lot of opportunity attacks. At least once, at the start of most combats. That was part of why I took the feat. Between the reverse weapon attack and the opportunity attacks...it all adds up. With Relentless Avenger, the paladin can move half the speed to place themselves in a better position. And if they are hasted, it will be 30 feet of movement without provoking opportunity attacks.

Vengeance has such an amazing spell list. Relentless Avenger just hangs off of the subclass like a ball and chain that makes it hard for me to pick the Oath knowing I’ll get basically nothing at level 7.

As always you make great videos with a lot of thought put in them and explanations of your opinions. I think the oath of ancients Paladin always seemed like it got the abilities of a classic rpg videogame bard. You get aura effects that help all your companions, that just screams bard to me, throw in a level or 2 of bard and that is a great support character

I believe the Oath of the Ancients and Oath of Vengeance are the spiritual successor of the 4e Warden and Avenger respectively and I love them for that.

Polearm master feat can substantially increase your characters odds of taking attacks of opportunity. A bard might be willing to help you out by casting dissonant whispers too.

Paladin only needs 2 strong atributes: charisma and either dexterity or strength (albeit if you focus on dex paladin you only need 13 in st to wear full heavy armor). Constitution doesn't require more than 14. A typical half-elf Dex pala would go 13/16/14/9/8/16 and a half-elf ST pala would go 16/10/16/8/8/16. For mid level hexblade padlock (not optimal, but strong) you can just focus in Cont and Char due Char will carry attacks, damage, spells and checks. Compared to 3 and 3.5 "4 atributes needed" 5E is a walk in the park for a paladin. Since none of the ranged weapons gets any advantage from the class the best choice is either shield + one hand weapon or two handed. If you want ranged attacks either get Magic Initiate or Spell Sniper feats to get Warlock cantrips (albeit you won't get as much from them as a Hexblade). If you go mele, best choices for martial style are either defense or duelist; shield + war hammer is better than halbard or other two handed options because you need traits to make 2HD to work, whereas shild + 1HD doesn'r require traits, so your atributes will be stronger (also, GWM is trash at mid to high levels because the main foes usually have too AC to risk a fail). Best Oath is Ancients due the massive benefits to your team at low and mid tier campaigns, which is probably what most of players will play 95% of the time. So get your board, buff your defenses and turn most of your spell list in smites, because your nova burst of damage while providing team support iss the main reason you aren't playing a ranged warrior, anyway.

Wow, you must be older than I thought. I had thought you were in your mid 20s, but then you said you cut your D&D teeth on 2nd edition and that goes back over 20 years. Also really enjoy these videos and look forward to more in the future.

If im not mistaken, paladins in 5e dont necessarily need to worship a god for their power. I could use some clarification on this sinse i could be wrong.
