Well I would say one thing that is good about this is what is wizards of the coast has actually started with this book doing something that I've kind of noticed they is a company a weekend. They're actually getting creative and not just relying on their past success. Many of us are turning to third party companies because third party companies are going into new settings that are different than anything else that's even seen before so if we're not so much necessarily into European mythology and say our favorite genre is something pretty different a lot of the third party companies are providing it where wizards of the coast really isn't

That's true!! I know they have a lot of pressure from long-time fans to revisit classic settings like Dragonlance and Spelljammer, so it's good to see them forge new ground in this book! -Theo

@@TheGallantGoblin which I see what's good about visiting new settings but at the same time there are people like myself who like the creativity that D&D allows people to use but at the same time I'm not so much into sword and sorcery fantasy I'm the one who's actually more into like pure sci-fi. I do enjoy the exploration and so I'm always looking for dungeon crawl books which WoTC provides this but because I'm always looking for something new I have a tendency to turn to third-party companies and I know there was a room which turned up with the faults (that in one D&D they might not renew the open gaming license) but it did bring up a point third party companies are taking business away from wizards of the Coast. So if they don't want their business to erode they got to do something and I would think the most obvious reason why is because of the coast is only relying on their laurels where if they would create some very unique settings that they have never done they might be able to keep from their business being constantly eroded by the third party companies.

It's bizarre to me that a multi-adventure compilation would spend so much page count on different settings and cultures (which is great!), and then be so repetitive in terms of using so many festivals as backdrops. It seems like either a lazy or uncoordinated editorial approach. It sounds like this is a bunch of DMsGuild one-offs brought together under one cover without any consideration given to variety. It's unfortunate because I would assume every individual contributor put a TON of thought and effort into their individual contributions but that the complete product diminishes the value of each separate chapter.

When is 5th edition going to refresh Forgotten Realms? Or Greyhawk? You know...the settings that got D&D on track and legendary.
@Mankcam
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah both Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms were great! Given that WotC put out a fair bit of Forgotten Realms during D&D 5E's early days, I just wish they would get back to it as a default home base, with at least one or two books a year. Even if they stick just to The Sword Coast, there's so much content there that can be updated for D&D 5E!

Looks pretty interesting, although it also sorta feels like a fictional version of Walt Disney World for some reason, but I will have to check this out a bit more to get a better understanding of it. Good to see some other cultures being used as analogies, although not sure if it's a setting I would be running. I guess I really just want to see D&D 5E return to the classic fantasy vibe it had a few years back when Forgotten Realms was still the default setting

I’ve said it a few times, and so far nothing has changed (even after the sneak peak chapter). I don’t really like the citadel itself. The SETTINGS sound awesome. The new books stacking or adding rules, aside from Fizban's Dragons, makes the game cumbersome, think all those 3.0/3.5 books floating around for hefty fees. Agrre with everything you say Theo. Expect they left the authors out because some people would protest that a person can't write about a given cultural background unless they have that background - which is just ridiculous. For example, I am sure you could write a great story from living in Japan, even though you are American, based on your years of living there.

the audacity to call a TTRPG starwars-medieval-fantasy fan fiction, because of settings you are not forced to use. What does that even mean? Fanfiction of what? I mean you can play forever in the Forgotten Realms if you want, but what do you have against more modern settings? How does that disrupt your game and peace? Or do you just feel offended, because it doesn't match your political view?
@francoiscolin6692

@@TheOriginalDogLP The audacity to deny the fact that D&D becomes more and more woke thus betrays more and more players because it does not suit your political views is beyond me. First, i'm beyond offended: i'm sad. Sad because this trend has become a real plague for the whole modern pop culture (not just D&D). But don't worry , i know you don't give a damn and you're right. You're the new kings of this decade anyway and the next two or three to come. You've won the cultural battle. Not because you're right but because people and companies are too afraid of being called : fascists, racists and other nonsenses with the "phobe" ending. Which is a shame for disagreeing with someone or something does not mean you're hating this iead or this person. Yet you are creating a real circle of hatred because no one likes to be forced to eat something ad nauseam. And it would not matter if this book was just an isolated book but the whole D&D game has become more and more like that: a Radiant Wokeness. D&D is not Star Wars where all the cultures, colors and races can mix up no matter what. And saying that does not make be an "ist" or a "phobe" like person; i'm just tired to see how little people care about the source materials which are : western mediaval mythos, fantasy and cultures. Imagine two seconds playing a roleplaying game in Wakanda for decades and discover that the new iteration will have mostly white people, a white T'Challa and no alignement. Long live AD&D2 where everybody was welcome to play no matter what sexual orientation, color pigmentation or political views you could have BUT where rules where here to remind us that in the end: it's a game, not a fan fiction or a fantasy of some modern political trend from the real world.

@@francoiscolin6692 "You've won the cultural battle." It was never a battle my friend. And I truly dont understand your last paragraph: "Long live AD&D2 where everybody was welcome to play no matter what sexual orientation, color pigmentation or political views you could have BUT where rules where here to remind us that in the end: it's a game, not a fan fiction or a fantasy of some modern political trend from the real world." You saying, 5e doesn't have rules anymore? How the fuck are you playing 5E? Why do you think in these books rules doesnt exist or doesnt matter anymore? And you got the purpose of rules completely wrong, they are not there to remind us of anything. They are there to deliver a framework of automated decisions. They are GAMEPLAY. Your political opinion has nothing to do with the gameplay of 5e, you are talking about the contents and ideas, not the rules. And you are right, they definitely changed. For good reasons. The world goes on. The 80s were not some ideal utopia that gets destroyed now by your political enemies.

I'm sorry but I can't be behind any book that uses exclusion of a race as its selling point. Whether you're white or black or no matter what race you. This book with its selling point of no white authors it's flat out racism. There's no other word for it. I don't care what race the person writing my adventure is as long as it's okay but if you use that as a selling point that's straight up hate bigotry and racism. That's all it is no matter what you want to call it. I'm sorry Wally I've always liked your Channel and I know that you tried to avoid mentioning that fact about this book but Wizards flat out announced that selling point their self. I believe this will be the first true 5e book that I will boycott. This book is flat out racism and virtue signaling.
