I really wish people would stop treating "Charmed" like "Dominated". Charmed makes you treat the subject like they're a dear friend or loved one. Would you murder your coworkers if a loved one asked you to? Probably not. If a fight broke out, you'd definitely try to protect them, but you shouldn't automatically be expected to become violent against your party because your charmed. Like i am in a room and the doors dont work. What else is there to do but attack the walls? (sure look for hidden doors or hidden mechanisms but these can be missed due to low investigation checks and attacking the walls would be the fail save for when the whole party is trapped, preventing a party ko). It seemed like 2 vs 7 would be fair, it was just a difficult encounter (but i dont know the lvl of the 2 so maybe not.). I mean you could have also easily fought them 1 vs 6. I mean you already got the attention of one playing chess and the rest could have asked for a way to idk the kitchen and killed him/her there. Also if it was to difficult just leave xD. Its DnD you can do whatever you want. Also this realy just seemed like a salt filled story. This is a call that anyone can do if they think that someone lied about a roll (including me as the DM) and the person who got witness called on them has to sit back, not touch the dice and submit to having the roll witnessed or else have the roll be nixed and have to reroll with the person standing behind them witnessing it. @@omlo9093 I have no idea with what you mean. I am not talking about my game. I am talking about any living game I have played in. A living game is another name for organized games, such as Adventure League. The players players can jump in and jump out of groups that are part of the organization, since they all play the same adventures at the same time. This makes things nice and simple and allows players to join up with another group if they don't like the one they're with. As a consequence to this, most organized play also gives severe limitations on things you can and can't do. I have been told that I couldn't pick up a set of lockpicks we found in a game because there was no certificate for that item in the adventure. In addition, living games also tend to be very rule-heavy and discourage out of the box thinking in order to keep everyone's experience the same. This draws in a lot of players who look at D&D as a video game that they can win, rather than a shared experience between players who all want to have a good time playing together.

It was a low level encounter, level 4, and we already had 4 players so we figured we could cover for him if need be. Instead of treating him poorly or letting my friends do stuff and not him I did what I always do, I was fair and consistent. We helped him figure out the rules and his character better, we beat the bad guys and we all had a good time. That's what this is supposed to be about. Camaraderie, having fun and killing hell spawn. I specifically told you I wasn't going to kill him!" the DM says "Look idiot, just play the fucking game or don't, it's your choice" so I left. Another story from a homebrew system ran by a dm who isn’t a good dm imo. Homebrew races and classes and items that are a problem on their own but this is about a player who’s dumb ideas always get presented and usually shut down but when the dm makes the party do his ideas or lets him do his ideas on his own despite our characters being present to stop him. We are on a spaceship that is ours and our engine gets shot out because the dm thinks it’s a good idea to let a space ship 100x bigger than us to be able to launch escape pods into our ship so we have to fight “highly trained assassins” while also trying to either run by going at a regular speed, which isn’t a choice, stay as fight by putting our “shield generator on high” despite constant warnings that “it’ll deplete your fuel” which we already lose fuel really fast on the lowest setting besides off with “one small trip”, or go into hyperdrive and blast off to a spot where we will have allies to help us or maybe the enemy won’t follow us. The player in question is playing a crab like race and his class is “soldier” which means he gets lots of explosives and abilities involving explosives. My class was grenadier which means I can push people and maybe do some damage. And the soldier and grenadier and every other class in this system share the same proficiencies and starting weapons. So crab soldier sees the situation we are in and decides he will get on a gun and shoot our ship. As a way to “give us a boost” the dm lets him and we start spinning wildly. Knowing that our dm sets all his dcs to 15 for easy, 20 for medium, and go fuck yourself for hard, I think in the five seconds I have to not seem like an idiot “engine is fucked and will be fucked for the next 100 rounds, ship won’t stop spinning for next 100 rounds, we will die in the next 2 rounds if we don’t drastically move now.... launch the ship in whichever direction we are facing right now” and I slam the button to go into hyperdrive. Dm says roll d20 with disadvantage. 2 nat 20’s. Dm says before he tells us where we are, the enemy ship will follow within 6 seconds and they will have advantage since they saw us and can prepare to launch. Rolls 2d20 right in front of us instead of behind his “dm screen” (his hand) and Gary gygax must’ve seen this shitshow of a campaign happening and wanted the players to finally do something cool because we end up next to a planet that has been “hollowed and mechanized” and is no longer habitable. We stopped right before we would’ve been fucked. The enemies however, they rolled two nat 1’s the enemy ship showed up right behind us, casting a giant shadow, only to be unable to stop and crash straight into the planet’s “moon”. So clearly we got not do for anything that happened there. But hey it was nice to be able to recover the shitshow and I might not like the crab because he always sets up hurdles and the dm must be working with him to fuck us all over, but when the dice are on my side things are beautiful.

Yeah.... That adventure was definitely setup to backstab and kill the party. I think the Monk was smart in running.... I mean.... He could at least get help or with new characters get revenge. But yeah... Assuming it was as you told it, Jerkface should of had it coming after the revenant attack. I don't usually mind players going after players but there has to be a good motive to do so. Most usually just want to con the party out of wealth or magic items rather than outright kill them. Betraying a party for gold is another motive one but usually the party ends up imprisoned which sets up a new adventure rather than party death. This seemed setup to piss you off out of character rather than have everyone having fun.

I think the aspects of DM favouritism, non-consensual PVP and not scaling have been all well-articulated. I can't speak for the module, or Adventurer's League, but there are some other takeaways here other than the obvious points above. (I'm not ragging on the players, this is simply a "lessons learned" thing that can apply to any RPG.) Basically, if the PCs were being hired to help arrest or capture the twins. I am not a fan of over-planning but it helps to take a moment before you knock on the door to make sure everyone's on the same page. I am not conversant in D&D so some classes might have abilities or skills I am not aware of, but something like, "Ok everyone, let's keep focused here. This is not a social call. We go in there, get the twins together. Don't go off to see your rooms or the kitchen or the wine cellar or the cedar jacuzzi. Sir Whatever, you and the Barbarian and the Paladin go in for the grab. Wizard, you stay back in support. Rogue, you're the backup in case someone goes down (look for a chance to backstab, maybe?). Bard, you watch over the knight's men-at-arms and have them secure all exits to the room so no one gets in or out, if we're doing badly you guys jump in and dogpile on them. Once we subdue them we are outta there. Everyone got it?"

@@EternallNewbie I don't want to beat a dead horse. More like, "what can we do to make sure this doesn't happen again?" This game is done and gone (and makes for an amusing story) but instead of only being mined for humour how can we get some additional value out of this Gong Show? In that case, a few minutes in-character chat before going in might help. Not even going into roles, but in a situation like this keeping clear your party goal is important. True, this technique maybe seems more appropriate for a modern game, but maybe you are ahead of the curve!

If the target suffers any harm or receives a suicidal command, it can repeat the saving throw, ending the effect on a success. If the target successfully saves against the effect, or if the effect ends, the target is immune to this fiend's Charm for the next 24 hours. The fiend can only have one target charmed at a time. Dc 15 is a pretty average dc, especially for low levels. The kiss attack is a bit overkill but seems like a non lethal attack. The module itself seems like a diplomatic module that is not meant for the party to be overtly aggressive with the “enemy”. As a dm who has not seen this module before what I can guess on the story is it is meant for you to side with the enemy to progress the story, not continue throwing away your life in a purposely pointless struggle. On the pvp point more than 1/2 the party agreed on the pvp before the game. The warlock had a pretty obvious reason for turning so easily: a warlock is not a paladin, a warlock deals with demons and devils, the perfect class for this module.

Docking and coming ashore, we find a shine to their obvious dark god. but after narrowly escaping with our lives we want to rest obviously. say for the cleric..... the very.... VERY special, Cleric. HE THOUGHT HE WAS JUST GUNNA TAKE SHIT FROM THE SHRINE the rest of the party completely unaware that the Cleric just stole like 200gp worth of gems after which DEMOGORGAN HIM FUCKING SELF rose from the watery depths. after a breif battle with Fear, and paralysis. we run.... FAST..... leaving the cleric to his fate. SOME HOW! he managed to escape as well. this went on. until the party kept finding way to get the cleric "hurt" stuff that looked like an accident. this was after he attacked a sea hag (an actually Friendly one, because i bossed persuasion rolls) from that point on.... we tried to kill our cleric..... maybe we neglected to heal him while we fought.... maybe a branch fell in front of him as he walked near a cliff. eventually.... we succeeded... felt NO REMORSE because lets face it.... if you steal from a shrine to Demogorgon AT LEVEL FUCKING 2!!!! .... you probably deserve to die.

I recently ran a session that ended with a boss battle between the party and an aboleth, two mind flayers, and five intellect devourers. The party was so paranoid about having one of the PCs controlled by the aboleth that they put up an antimagic field (with an item) and kept hiding inside it between turns even though the wizard was taking unsustainable amounts of damage pinning down the aboleth. They literally let her die (the aboleth attacked the corpse) to make sure they didn't lose the main battle, beacause she was inside the antimagic field and could not receive healing unless it was lowered. And you know what? They totally derailed my plan, which was to have the aboleth try to dominate the ranger that does far more damage than anyone else in weapon combat. Even if they manage to neutralize him, they still have to fight on without him. Once the wizard stepped in the way, the new plan was to hurt her so bad the party had to drop their antimagic field, at which point I'd have an outside chance of turning the battle by winning a party member. But they chose to let her die rather than let me get even ONE psychic attack in on any of them. Then they polished off the aboleth, used a Teleportation Circle to a pre-arranged relief site, and had her back among the living inside of five minutes. They were absolutely right to be afraid of the monster that removes player agency, but if it was such a bad thing, it wouldn't be so prevalent among the monsters. It's pretty much the _entire purpose_ for illithids! If it was cancer to the game, then it has failed to kill the game for over 40 years now, which is more than we can say for the original DM and cancer.

@@EternallNewbie Have you ever been to max level before? I've never even owned a magic item, other than one I earned from being an ad&d GM. Always wanted to make an Arch-lich, but I've never reached the level before. P.s. felt like it'd be rude to not respond again. 😁

Sounds poorly executed; not so much badly written.

I like a little salt but there was a bit too much, I’d consider you and some of your party the heroes of the story. The heroes are only as great as their adversary especially in failure because whatever the quality of the adversary, the heroes are worse because they lost to it. Your art and story style is certainly geared toward wacky comedy but wackiness doesn’t always have to be random and I think your story would benefit a bit more to relatable/understanding of why things happen. That all came out a lot meaner before than intended, hope this is a little nicer, your videos just pop up now and then, I just enjoyed the last few more than this one and it rubbed the wrong way.

Eternall Newbie sorry about that, I’ll try to think of a better way to say it, I might just be in an awful mood
