Finally! An OPERATOR that understands what a dozer ripper is for and how to use it! There is a reason there are hydraulic cylinders on the ripper that change the angle of the ripper shank! All the way vertical to penetrate, then roll the shank forward. This does two things. One is that it makes the shank more efficient by using the weight of the material to help traction. Sort of like an axe into wood. Vertical it chops in, less vertical it will lift long sections of wood. But the biggest reason an OPERATOR does this is to keep the ripper tooth sharp! Leaving it vertical quickly rounds it off. Rolling forward always leaves and edge on it to bite into material. This Operator was able to start with the ripper rolled a bit forward due to the open face of the rock, didn't need to penetrate to get started. Every type of material will have a slightly different angle that works best. From coal to softer slate to weathered rock. Good job using the decelerator pedal to maintain traction without excessive track slippage. It is also easier on the operator! This is a LONG day ripping hard rock. Yes this dozer has an exhaust leak. Not a critical issue.

Alot of baby boomer operators learned alot from older boomers and generation before but after kids from turn of century you can't teach them nothing, smart asses thought they knew it all ! I've ran D9G through D11T in almost same atmosphere as this one running in for around 40 years! Had to give it up because of these kids thinking they could get paid for playing on phone all day! Don't know how mining will survive once all of us older guys are gone!

no mate the 11s are no worse on air filters then any other dozer.all dozers creat dust especially wen its dry. the tractors also have an indicator that alerts the operator when the filters are blocking. some times in extreem dusty conditions the filters may have to be blown out with compressed air after each shift. only takes 10mins to change a set of filters. the more hours per day these babys work means more money in the bosses pocket overall not just to pay its own way. thanks for asking.

to the questions above ...1st he is an experienced operator and he is using his deexcellator pedal to not spin his tracks when ripping ( so he is up and down on his pedal ) 2nd- the edge is not dangerous -he has a natural slope into the pit -if the edge was a vertical slope from a high wall ( blasting ) - he would be far more cautious 3rd-that is not dusty - try pushing on a coal pile in a 30mph wind coming at U-lol clean filters as per conditions ( operators are responsible to know when )

Smack a hammer on some blue metal when u get the chance and see what happens! it will take a lot of force to break it.and when it does watch the splinters and dust particulates you create.Hard rock equals friction add to that the weight on the shank of that ripper trying to force its way thru it and that would equate to stupendous forces.hence the reasons you see the rock atomise. The experienced blokes know how to work this stuff, pitching the ripper depending on the structure.if he knows the general lay of the ground he will have a good idea how to work it.This guy knows his shit. he just needs to be appreciated and put in a nice new machine.but i know he knows he can do as gooda job in this and probably as effeciantly in this old girl.money saved.

I heard that D11's are the worst on air filters. Does anyone know how many times they have to change out the air filters? Is ripping worse then just pushing a pile as far as kicking up dust? I understand these machines are so expensive that they have to work 24/7 to pay for themselves. Is this true? If the air filters clog unexpectedly especially on a night shift, how long is the machine down? Appreciate any comments. Thanks
