I worked as a tech support for LG appliances before. We have manuals for all these error codes. This brings back memory. There’s a lot of people out there who don’t regularly check or clean their vents, the lint traps, gaskets, or use too much detergent and fabric softener which causes buildup and leads to funky smell and leaks. 😆

In the US there are at least 2 types of filters in the dryer. One inserts into the top of the machine. Long screen about 7 or 8" wide. These are best. My vent is 3' long and I have full access to it. Almost no lint gets past the screen. VERY little! The other kind has a filter in the door frame and it lets LOTS of lint into the vent. I know because I have done house sitting since '88 and most of them have the door frame screen and when you remove it to clean the screen, the vents have lots in there. I have cleaned vents at several of the places and reported some to the owners when they got home.

Yep. It might take years, but that output hose will get blocked, no matter what you do. The old dryer in my patient's house was known to all the caregivers to need two runs to dry a full-sized load. Waste of electricity (not to mention time, since no one could get a full load of laundry finished and put away within the span of their shift. We left a lot of notes for each other.) This here was the exact problem. Lint had clogged the output hose all the way up to his roof. They scrubbed that out and the old dryer works like a brand new dryer all of a sudden.
@q33ran

no it will not always clog up, your dryer vent should never clog up in fact. this happens because people don’t take the extra 2 seconds to clean their lint trap after every cycle. if you wait for it to fill up, or god forbid never empty it, lint is getting caught in your vent.

@grahamb7947

nahhh, filters in the dryer itself is annoying af, especially the ones in the bottom. They get clogged up real fast, and it's annoying trying to find replacements when you can no longer get them clean. Then there's the filters built into the dryer which you can't remove without taking the entire machine apart, and have to call the manufacturer and pay them a hefty fee to come out to clean/replace it. Even worse, is when you have hard water (most of the world has enough limescale in the water to make this a problem)... because to the filters, is like smoke is to the lungs, and doesn't only affect your espresso machine/shower head or whatever. That's why drying clothes in a clothes dryer always makes them so soft, while hanging them to dry makes them crispy. Hang drying leaves the limescale in the fibers and turns clothes into cardboard. When limescale clogs up the inner filter that you can't remove, it doesn't matter whether the sponge filter is clogged or not, the machine won't be able to breathe and will quickly overheat. Inbuilt filters are just outright terrible design. With a duct system, you can literally do maintenance every 6-12 months by shoving a long brush up the duct to loosen everything, which costs nothing but 10-20 minutes of your time and a vacuum bag.

Basically in Belgium this is now totally forbidden to have a vent for the tumble dryers. Water should be collected in a reservoir inside the dryer or be expelled through a pipe. Lint is collected in the inside filter on each cycle and if you don't, the dryer goes on error mode when too full. For the ones still using a vent, insurance companies do not cover damages if they can prove vent was not properly maintained and created a fire. Edit: I have now precised a country to avoid misunderstanding and miscomprehension 🙂

Lint is very flammable. Don't let any sparks get near lint inside a building. Its a great fire starter for flint and steel type strikers, if anyone camps and wants to try for camping. As long as its dry you can soak it wax. You can make your own little fire starter kits for camping that might work in a little rain. I know this was a bit off topic, sorry about that. I used to do this to start my campfires whenever I used to camp. Though, i didn't use the wax since I don't camp in the rain. I know it works because I've seen other ppl do it with the wax in the lint balls.

When building a house, the dryer should always be on the first floor and the vent should be right behind the dryer to the outside. They should never be more than just a foot or two of air exiting from the dryer. I can't imagine why anyone would put it straight up and out the roof!

If you want to and isnt a hassle you could post both with and without the music. The people who like the ASMR get what they want, and the people who like the music get what they want. There's also the possibility of making a separate channel for the ASMR. But only if it's convenient for you. I love the content either way.

Ceiling vents are the worst. I've had to clear a few at my job and the fact they not only are much longer, but have to fight gravity makes me wonder what some people were thinking when designing some buildings.

As an appliance repairman, never obscure the vent opening with a screen, try to make the airflow direct, as in straight up or out. Less turns = better. Best way is to use a flap so critters and birds cant make a nest

yeah, tried the flap; squirrel ate it and caused a lot of damage inside my apartment.

Don’t use dryer sheets folks. They add a waxy type layer to the lint and it makes it so much easier for it to stick together and block your exhaust. You still need to do regular proper maintenance but it will make it so much worse.

Side note: Just imagine the cost of running a dryer that can not get rid of moisture. Normal is $8 a month. This I guess takes 4 or 5 times longer. Clogging takes years. You could buy a new dryer or two for that wasted money.

I come from the UK and we don't use dryers much but would all this just be from the fluff from the clothes as I haven't seen this before?
