Thanks for posting this video. Something about such big equipment touches the heart of a grown up boy. I loved using 955 and 977 loaders when I was in school, as Summer jobs.

That baby purrs like a kitten. For something that old to run that well is awesome.

@theoldgalah Pony motor = starter engine. On some old machines, you had a small engine, instead of an electrical motor. That way even if it had been standing still for a long time, you could start it, without having to worry about the battery being dead. Also, often the small pony engines would be quite good at starting in even very cold temperatures, so you could then use them to heat up some of the oil in the engine, so it wasn't locked up when you tried to start it..

It would be worth the price of the machine just to own that whistle on the turbo. This baby sounds like it has plenty of muscle.

What are the differences between a D9 and a D9G excepting that the D9 is older. Also what engines do they both have, if it's the same.
@HaydenIngram

@bumoffhtestreet

Depending on the year the hp ratings and tractor weights are different. The D9G had 385 hp, while earlier D9's had 286, 320, and 335 hp, respectively. The D9H had 410 hp and was basically a refined D9G with an after-cooler. The D9L had a high drive track and 460 hp from a new V12 motor. The current D9N, R, and T are not the successor to the original D9; in 1987 Cat moved the model numbers up one. The D8L was replaced by the D9N, the D9L was replaced by the D10N, and the D10 was replaced by the D11N, and the D8N was a completely new tractor.
