And anybody who is mature in mind is okay with it. It is never one person who asks about everything in marriage anyway, so respect the symbolism and give the man honor in that way, and woman gets its own by being treated like a ‘princess’ here. Don’t ruin that.

@@denisewalters1088 I have found that the daughters who end up on their own are usually the ones whose husbands disrespected her father, either by refusing to ask his permission to marry prior to the marriage, or treating the father badly after the marriage. If the fiance treats the father of the bride badly or disrespects him, the gal should see this as a sign and call off the wedding. Fathers always have their daughter's best interests at heart.

Also be careful w that. My father was kind and his first wife became a monster. After their divorce she was awfully abusive to the children. My father found out after years. All the money he gave never went to the children and they experienced awful things. So yes self-respect matters too.

That's what my older brother (who raised me with my mom in the absence of a deadbeat father) told my then husband (now ex-husband). He said "we didn't give her to you to be treated badly. If you can't treat her well, give her back, we can take care of her." I call him my dad. He never left me even all through my adult life. Now I'm remarried at age 44 and extremely happy. I still can't believe a husband could be like this!❤

It was devastating but a relief to him because he was free from pain...he suffered from brain aneurysm for 4 years and I looked after him, singlehanded. I had my eldest son but he is married, my 2 younger kids had their own work and life too. True, have to be independent...the only thing I don't do anymore is drive...long story. I confess that in 36 years of marriage, disagreements, differing opinions, but we never let it drive us apart and commit ourselves to why we set up a home. It's been 5 years now without my husband, I just turned 65 last week...that was his age when he passed. You're on the right track, I see it in your writing...always stay strong, God bless🙏

Well then not unnecessarily hurt is a better request. It will hurt if he says, "This is not working out for me. I made a mistake." That's cool. But if he cheated, lied for years, had a side family, made her look and feel like she had something, but all she had was a joke of a man who claimed to be her husband? That would hurt much much more than simply being honest with his own feelings about what he's done with her, and letting her go on to be happy with someone else. Let her have a second chance without believing she's damaged goods.
