@@MattyIce_023 its fun to push the narrative around, but you have to include some key words here. The weekend CO wrote shot for me, practice and good ones go and was a feature on the ride and crew love - everything else on those two songs except the weeknds vocals (the ride being just a looped sample and some harmonies) was Drake lmao. The songs he CO wrote for you can tell what parts were drake such as: the rapping bit and 504 on practice and the dont you go getting married etc on good ones go just sounds like Drake, which is like 90% of the songs. If you want to think smth that isn’t the case on your own that’s a whole different thing and you can be as narrow minded as you so desire.

This album.. man. I’m not ashamed to say - it’s my number 1 of all time. Just because it introduced me to a style that resonated with me (and much like most of my generation) perfectly. I can’t describe how hyped I was to find this artist and, again, unashamedly I became an instant “Stan”. That lasted all the way up until about when he released Scorpion. Now it’s whatever, couldn’t really care for him; a combination of getting older and not liking the direction he’s gone. Also the fact he’s just so big and mainstream now it doesn’t feel “special”. I remember in, what I consider to be, his prime era when he released “NWTS” and a lot of my mates hadn’t even heard of him. Good times.. Side note. I was reading the booklet and through the credits one evening and I kept seeing another artist’s name popping up on all my favourite tracks. Long story short: I discovered The Weeknd then and refelt all those same emotions of discovering MY kind of artist all over again. I now had 2 artists who I honestly loved every song they were releasing. I’m just waffling now but long story short, a big part of my “growing into an adult” years were listening to Drake.

When your Dad mentioned it seems like he has something to prove, he was right. It was the fact he was just a random kid actor from Degrassi trying to become a rapstar, and at the time, most rappers were from the projects and nothing like Drake. He was trying to prove to everyone he wasn't just another actor trying to pursue music, but he was a respectable Hip Hop/RnB artist in his own right.

This is probably my favorite album of all time. It has songs I’ve partied to and had great experiences. But it also has sadder songs that got me through some low points. The samples and instrumentation all gives off a “classy” vibe as well which makes it feel timeless.

It’s the most critically acclaimed & most iconic of all them especially with weeknd footprints all over it. His most recent 3 albums… have been lower quality & aside from the commercial success (which by the way recently looks like is also falling off)… is an obvious step down. Also I know it’s cool to hate Drake right now but I think a lot of ppl are serious about it and forget that this is the Drake we used to have. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy his more recent stuff but I can’t deny this was his peak artistic creativeness. Personally I hope he gets back to this type of sound.

Ja Rule was doing that in the 2000s. there’s just something different when Drake did it. his collabs with Noah Shebib were the main reason the production blended in great with his voice. nowadays Drake sounds lazy and uninterested when he sings on the track because there’s no motive to put effort into the music.

Have you ever heard a song at a certain point in time and forever think of that moment every time you hear it? I was taking drivers training in 2011 and the song “Take Care” played on the radio. For some reason, that’s the moment I think of every time I hear that song. Without fail. It’s nothing special, it’s just weird how that moment stuck.

People overdo the "Weeknd gave this album to Drake" nonsense. Weeknd was involved in maybe 3 or 4 tracks on this 18-track album. And tbh, it helped the Weeknd gain notoriety if anything. This is probably Drake's best album, Marvin's Room, Underground Kings, Headlines, Lord Knows, and Practice are timeless tracks that will love on forever. And Look What You've Done is easily a top 5 Drake track all time imo. A+ album.

Greatest album of all time for me. Especially my favorite Drake album this album easily changed hip hop forever more. The fragility of being able to be yourself and not a thug and make it huge was so new into rap. He took everything that was underground and brought it into the spotlight of rap. Bc of this album it made rap digestible to be able to transcend 106 & park and American culture. Just pure nostalgia seeing your dad hear it for the first time. Also, first time an artist was able to rap and sing and make it sound gorgeous. Do a top 5 Drake album of time once you finish his discography it’ll EASILY be the hardest to do with him having 13 projects.

@@hussein3274 Tribe called Quest & De La Soul were successful in the peak of gangsta rap definitely didn’t start with Kanye or Drake. I think Drakes was more influential because he was straight up singing over girls like an r&b singer. Doing it wrong, good ones go, shot for me etc.

@@hussein3274 I can agree even to say 808s influenced it even more. Kanye without a doubt most notably All Falls Down helped push conscious rap. Whereas 808’s changed the production and overall sound of hipop, it was this album that really fathered the introduction of emotional rap. Love him or hate him, Drake paved the way for the modern personalization of rap, venting about one’s own life in a way people can relate to.
