Experts say that is not necessary to wash chicken. Washing it spreads any germs around your sink and draining board. If thete is anything in the chicken, as long as it it COOKED WELL, they will be killed off.

Did anyone notice if she washed her hands after handling the raw chicken? I agree the chicken doesn't need to be washed as the heat kills any bugs. Washing splashes bugs over the sink area.

Its nice to see a decent reply, I had previously seen a similar question answered by suggesting pure vinegar as the alternative, this was a recipe where the taste of the wine was also a big aspect of the dishes flavour and it had cream in which would quite possibly have been split by the addition of said vinegar.

LOL, bizarre Americans, your missing a bit of logic in this statement. WATER does NOT kill any bacteria, on the contrary water is a fantastic carrier of bacteria and for this reason its NOT recommended by either health regulators in America nor Australia where we are. The Heat in the cooking process kills all bacteria, though we do have much better food hygiene regulations and much better agricultural practices here in Australia. Just to further point out the remiss in your logic, you don't wash your hands with pure water do you? You wash your hands with Soap and water, because its the SOAP that kills the bacteria. I might be wrong but I doubt you wash your chicken with Soap and water as it would taste disgusting.

Read the above comments, but in brief, have you considered that water alone does not kill bacteria, to the contrary is a fantastaic carrier of bacteria. When you wash your hands you wash with SOAP and water, its the Soap that kills the bacteria, this is why its NOT recommended by health institues to 'wash' chicken. The heat in the cooking process kills all the bacteria.

@@ivoryvillarin6202 Never EVER wash chicken. Water is the perfect carrier of salmonella and splashing it about is a great way to coat your kitchen surfaces with lethal bacteria.
