Before Bart was apprehended and convicted, Kent (his dad) already decided to fully forgive the killer. But obviously the state had to press charges. The recommendation for clemency was influenced and likely unable to be made without his father. His sentence was commuted to life without parole. But at least from my perspective, that is enough of a punishment as his father who was wounded in the attack knew they wouldn't let him go so kept campaigning for the commution. Plus it's proven that the death penalty costs more to execute than life imprisonment for multiple factors including getting the drugs, finding a willing prison guard, subsequent appeals and the length of capital trials.

There was a guy that was always part of the larger gang of friends back in the party days of the late 80's. One night he murdered his parents and younger sister. I could tell you his name but no need. He's wiped from memory it seems. There's no story of it to be found anywhere on the internet when I looked. You can find him in a prison registry listing if you knew his name. He had two older sisters that lived because they didn't live at the family home any more being married with young kids of their own. At first they were all together until about the next day when the police figured it all out. I'm sure there's no one sending him any commissary money. No one misses him. Some of his close buddies gave up drugs as a result so maybe there was some good to come from a great evil.
