As far as your dad not having a great day is subjective. To us, especially to the ones who lives or lived with loved ones with dementia or who sees his interactions, sees this as a good day. He didn’t go off to his bedroom or wanting to leave the area with people. Our dad would isolate himself either in his bedroom or in the garage (we’d go out with him). He was highly agitated, would punch or hit mostly things but also us. All I can say is to all of the dementia family caretakers, cherish the good times. Even when you have to answer the same questions repeatedly! Love them for who they are to you and who they were before dementia. Tell them you love them because before you know it, they’ll be gone. Then you’ll wish for just one more minute to see them again. Ok, I’m done…as I’m crying.

Wow Dan, I hope you and your brothers and sisters thank God every day for giving your parents such long lives and that they can still be a part of your daily lives. Sure, maybe dad is not 100% all there anymore but at least he is still around which is way more than what many others can say who have no father or mother anymore. In my case I thank God I have my mom relatively healthy at 81 years old and my dad is still around somewhere in Southern California as well whereas many of my high school friends have already lost both of their parents. Those of us that are in our 50's and 60's and still have mom and dad around are few of the lucky ones and should thank God everyday for blessing them with long lives.
