Careful viewers this is not traditional wing chun...I guess it's wing tsun. It's basically modified wc. WC leg blocking/deflection is way overrated. WC guys always think they have a quick answer to every attack. You got a wc guy who does not specialize in kicks - kicking another wc guy. That is not good practice. A muy tai, taekwondo, or even karate guy would trash these guys. Plus worst chi sau ever....arms flailing around, people shifting way too much. BTW I do wing chun.

I'm not going to buy into the whole lineage thing, but I will only say this : *if* you have the reflexes and the speed to make these leg checks work for you, fantastic - personally, I'd rather put the time and effort into bridging the gap and evasion footwork. Everything happens so quickly on the street, but I'm happier with my feet planted firmly on the ground - just my two bahts worth, and YMMV. Peace out.

bullshit. martial arts came from everywhere where humans existed. There was martial arts in middle age europe and before.. probably during stone age people developed skills to kill each other. No country can claim to be the inventor of martial arts.

the asians are losing it... the mao-revolution supressed free development of martial arts, and only promoted show-fighting-wushu with no real fighting value. it is very sad, that today some martial arts are in fact preserved more accurately in europe. (i.e. tai chi mae wha tang lang)

it is 30 yrs in the past or so.. and i am fairly certain that before this happened, there was rather nasty word echange between those two. Emin felt challenged... - there is no out of the blue "jumping on" cheung.. something provoced it - and we should leave it at that.

...those claims usually can be proven. But what does it mean to be student of IP man? I had some students... some of them stayed for two weeks, expected something else.. and left.. other stayed for as long the school run. So there is the matter of "duration" as student of ip man Then there issthe matter of when in the teaching live of ip man ... any teacher, also IP man developed himself and the way he teaches, and what he teaches.... Then there is the "closed door" factor etc

it was in fact the gracies who pulled out, when he invited them to a neutral/no cameras/fbi sportshall - instead of the octagon cage. They insisted it had to be in front of cameras in their cage, with their rules... - later they claimed he was afraid.. but anyone known emin knows the truth. fear is not in his repertoir. Thats a ridiculous statement aiming at the couchpotato-experts sitting in front of their pay TV - for gracies it was all about business.. a loss would have ruined it

let's put it this way: Dai-Sifu travels the world teaching wing tzun, and he does all of it on his own dollar. i would have paid twice the amount that i paid to learn from Dai-Sifu Emin again.. and for a 4 hour seminar, i felt the price was absolutely adequate and worthwhile, even if Dai-Sifu wasn't a legendary figure in the martial arts community.

all i can say as a puny student of si-jo leung ting: he knows hell of a lot more than i do... and the few times we met, he has treated me friendly and with humor and patience - and he tought me a few good things. Of course i learned more from my direct si-hing (later si-fu) as he was my daily tutor. - that time, emin belonged to the same happy family.. he is a si-hing to me in the traditional tree.

that is my favorite thing about Dai-Sifu--he is humble, will teach anyone, AND he does not feel the need to boast or put down other forms of martial arts to better his own. he is the real deal, and he truly is the best teacher i've had, in any walk of life. i can't wait until he comes back to minnesota in November!

How could anyone see these techniques and think "Yeah that looks like it will work against an aggressive determined man that wants to cave my skull in."
@michieltummers1303
4 жыл бұрын
thats the problem imo. It gives people a false illusion that they can take real agressive coke sniffing idiots or trained fighters down by using softly trained fantasy techniques. Dont get me wrong, there are some things that WT does good. Trapping system is good, center line theory is good, but dont think this will work irl except for the weakest nutter in the house and even then its prolly better to call quits and just runs. i could imagine this working efficiently if trained in hard fashion, school of hard knocks style though, without the grappling or kicks, just the close range trapping system , center line theory, its not all horse crap you see, but its trained soo softly. I check out for example Gary Lam and see a guy i would actually want to train with , WT kicks are just not very good, normal fighitng situations , WT is just not very good, close up in a bar? WT would get my vote i think, but even then, maybe its still better to learn some decent boxing :)

The gentleman at 3:00-3:04 was struggling with the thrust kick to the mid section/chest. This technique isn't for everyone. At least those who don't have the best flexibility.
@MattJoyce
10 жыл бұрын
while i do agree that it takes a good amount of flexibility to properly apply Jap-Gerk, Bong-Gerk, and straight kicks to the midsection while standing in IRIS stance, Andrew (our Si-Hing) is actually a great example of flexibility and stability in Wing Tzun forms and techniques. However, that short little 10 second clip of him was taken after doing over 100 reps of the application, and he was probably pushing himself to finish strong. Thanks for taking the time to review our video, we will be posting a new one very soon!

Timothy Freeman flexibility comes with training. on the street the chest kick is a groin kick - obviously you dont want to do that with your training partner in a seminar.. hence the kick aims a little higher in training.
@zoolkhan

Matthias Joyce . it is probably the "IRAS" stance you refer to (Internally Rotated Adduction Stance) that straight kick would go to groin, in a self defense situation. like the punches aimed at the chest, would go to throat or nose when it gets serious. nice video, many thanks
@Martial-Mat

That seems kind of disrespectful. And you're hardly going to train to fight a sport fighter who is a kicking expert are you? You talk about good practice - surely good practice is preparing the students for what they will face? As for the level of the chi sau, perhaps these are not expert students? I'd love to see your video so that I can see it done properly.
