What's the industry standard for making claims on output? What's ISO for testing load/output? What's ISO for cell securment? Many things "look like" but are not equal to what they look like. When you tested the ice water were you reading a cube or the water around it. I'm not throwing shade, this is literally what I do for a living. Well, not baterys but data acquisition and testing/validation. Also, in the name of fair testing and "bench marking" one should keep a open mind until you have all the information in this case all the baterys open and ISO read and understood. If every batery comes in in a similar matter the disappointment shown for DL would make this current conclusion false. Just a thought like that you are taking the initiative to investigate this topic.

during the breaking period batteries will show less capacity. so if you did your tests fresh out of the box then you will get less. you did the right thing by taping up the wires because lithium batteries can release an incredible amount of energy when shorted a good manufacturer would probably have custom cells made where as the chinese makers usually would use off the shelf cells and call it 7ah. the good news is that you did not get. 1. reject cells where they buy the rejects from manufacturer and put them in product. 2. inflated capacity where they used 4s1p of the sub 1ah 18650 lifepo4 used in some lithium garden lights. 3 a complete lie where they took a standard lead acid battery and relabeled it as lifepo4 (we see that lie on storage cards for cameras and other devices where they either take a 32gb or less card and reprogram the controller to report 1 or more tb and mark it up to less than a legit card would or they would take factory rejects and sell them as genuine or just sell you a 32 or less gb card as 1 or more tb and mark it up to represent by cost 1 or more tb

There seems to be a cheap electronic embellishments standard. Cheap amps and speaker rating claims. Booster packs and lasers on eBay. As for your motors. The missing displacement is for quality. Just a heads up, if you do the math correctly based on the printed specs on the side of each cell and their configuration, you get a 7.04AH battery at 12v assuming no losses due to heat. The calculation works out like this for those interested, 4 cells in parallel = 3.3AH @12.8V, 2 packs of 4 cells each = 6.6AH @12.8V thus you are holding a 84.48WH battery in your hand, when ran at 12V, 84.48WH/12V = 7.04AH. Dakota is not trying to scam you. They have provided what they are marketing. Good video nun the less. Thanks for showing us the insides so we can make our own judgements. Looks to me that it is built pretty well all things considered.

@segravesfishing
2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for tearing one of those down. I've been curious about the insides of them myself. I've got a couple issues with your conclusions though. First, in terms of the power you're getting vs what is advertised, there is a little flaw in the math I think. The cells as you mentioned at 3300mAh at 3.2V so they are technically 6.6aH at 12.8V. The equation for power is P = A * V so that gives a power of 84.48 watts. If we reverse that and solve for amps with 12V instead of 12.8V since that's what we're paying for, it's actually 7.04 amps at 12 volts so *slightly* higher than advertised. Other issue I see is when you used your temperature gun to measure the ice water temperature you got 23 degrees. It must have hit an ice cube as water cannot be less than 32 degrees F unless it was supercooled (which wouldn't be possible with ice cubes in there). I'm not sure where the BMS is set to disable charging but I'd guess it's around 32. That might explain that issue. Anyway, thanks for the informative video on the insides of one of those.
@iceholepower8012
2 жыл бұрын
I think you might be confusing power and capacity. I tested the capacity of the battery which is measured in amp hours. These batteries are advertised as 7 amp hours and I tested 3 different batteries and never got the rated capacity. (tests in this video kzitem.info/news/bejne/w6KnxaKhmqGkn3o ) Your math does not work out in the real world since the nominal voltage of these lithium iron phosphate batteries are 12.8v. You can't just sub in 12v for your equation just because that is the generic name for the batteries in this voltage range. As far as the water temp.. It was salt water with ice cubes that had been in my freezer for about 30 mins and it did trigger the low temperature charging protection circuit in this video. kzitem.info/news/bejne/zoeH1Y2wq5xkpY4 The Dakota Lithium battery specs on their site do not list low temp charging protection as a feature on their BMS, that is the reason it didn't trigger.

@@iceholepower8012 no he has a point. Your measuring 6.6 amps for an hour at 12.8 volts nominal. But since these batteries are meant to be run at 12 volts you could get slightly more ah out of it. 12.8volts nominalx6.6 ah=84.48wh for the battery pack. 84.48wh/12 volts (load)= 7.04 ah
@basehorhonda

Segraves is right. The math never lies. But with that, that is how companies can make something that maybe isnt 100% that you think it is, but with a bit of smart math, as seems to be the case here, they technically didnt lie to you. You cant be upset about the 7 aH being mislabeled but then give them a pass on 12 volts, because it is mislabeled too. Its labeled as 7aH @ 12 V, you get that in its own way. The math backs it up.
