Dal Baati Recipe
Ingredients for Baati
- *Wheat flour:* 1 cup
- *Carom seeds:* 1 tsp
- *Ghee:* 2 tbsp
- *Baking soda:* 1/8 tsp
- *Salt:* 1 tsp
- *Water:* As required (approximately 4 tbsp)
Method for Baati
1. Take a flat bowl and sieve the flour.
2. Add carom seeds, ghee, baking soda, and salt to the flour.
3. Bind the mixture with water to form a tight dough.
4. Rest the dough for 10 minutes.
5. Bake the baati at 160°C for 25 minutes till properly baked. You can use an oven, air fryer, appe pan, or cook it on a gas stove using a kadai.
Ingredients for Dal
- *Toor dal:* 1/4 cup
- *Chana dal:* 1/4 cup
- *Black urad dal:* 1/4 cup
- *Moong dal:* 1/4 cup
- *Masoor dal:* 1/4 cup
- *Ghee:* 2 tbsp
- *Dry red chili:* 2
- *Cumin seeds:* 1 tsp
- *Ginger:* 1 tsp, grated
- *Turmeric powder:* 1/2 tsp
- *Red chili powder:* 1 tbsp
- *Coriander powder:* 1 tsp
- *Hing (asafoetida):* 1 pinch
- *Salt:* 1 tsp
- *Tomatoes:* 2, chopped
- *Coriander leaves:* A handful, chopped
Method for Dal
1. Measure and wash all the dals. Soak them for 15 minutes.
2. Pressure cook the soaked dals for 4 whistles.
3. Once the pressure cooker has cooled, take a pan and heat the ghee.
4. Add cumin seeds, ginger, hing, turmeric powder, tomatoes, and dry red chili. Sauté until the oil separates from the mixture.
5. Add the cooked dal to the pan and adjust the water consistency.
6. Boil the dal mixture for 2-3 minutes.
7. Finally, add red chili powder, coriander powder, salt, and coriander leaves.
8. Boil for another minute, then turn off the gas.
Serve the dal hot with crispy baati. Enjoy with garlic chutney and churma ladoo for a traditional Rajasthani meal.
