My guess is weird experiences are from within, hallucinatory. My 91 yr old Mom lost an eye and at one point saw little people, to the degree she'd get out of her chair, open her door and chase them out.

All very interesting. Another point I'd like to add, is of an ontological aspect. When people say "dreams and psychological experiences is the origin of religion", I point out that people born blind don't dream in vision, and can't conceive of colour. So this means that all experiences are learned, and culture must always inform or pre-date the psychological experience, dream, delusion, etc. So in that respect it cannot be the 'origin' of the notion of spirituality and religion. Rather, one's culture will dictate what 'kind' of "delusion" one experiences. But then one has to ask, if that is true, then, who was the first person to think about gods, demons, ghosts, etc and why. Since they'd not be able to point to a phenomena (internal or external) and suddenly say "God!" They need to be taught about the concept of God first to attribute the blame. So one could not actually attain or invent such religious beliefs from one's own imagination. An atheist who'd never heard of or seen gods or ghosts, would never have a supernatural form of delusion, but only ones in accordance to his naturalistic culture. So even if some experiences we have 'are' just of the brain and are religious in theme, it requires one to know religion first, and that means in itself as an ontological concept, religion, theism, and spirituality would be independent of delusions and dreams, rather than dependant. And if that's the case, we have reason to believe religion, spirituality and supernatural experiences are actually 'real', because they had to be experienced externally 'before' one can ever have a delusion upon the theme thereof.

Renowned or not, this guy just grew up in some sort of conservative tradition I guess. 9 experiences may suggest visiting a psychotherapist to be honest. Not to say the experiences aren't real, but religious (especially christian) men like this have profound repression and developmental issues.

It was an interesting interview, but I just can't put much stock in people's subjective experiences and stories. How many people see aliens and talk about encounters with aliens? How credible are such stories? I'm sorry but there is far too high a margin of error when it comes to books on people's "experience".

This is a great interview. Dale explains it in a sound way that doesn't come across as crazy. Not saying anyone who has had these experiences is crazy... Because then that means I have been crazy ALOT! 🤣
