You know, Dale was right! He actually did really good in 2000. He got second place. So close to win his 8th!

Dale “See if I can keep Dale Jr in line and get him going in the right direction.” Most interviews where he speaks about Jr. he seemed to always say something along those lines. I think he would be a bit shocked, but very proud of the man Dale Jr. became. I’m sure it never crossed his mind that Dale Jr. would ever be a leader in the sport or have such a strong influence. As a side note, I think Junior did some things as an adolescent just to try to get attention from his father….It didn’t much matter to him if the attention was good or bad just so he had his attention.

????? They raced a full season together in Cup. He raced in the NASCAR Busch series for his Dad for 2 full seasons (won championship both years) and a full season (2000) of Cup in a car owned by his father. Dale Earnhardt Inc. finished 1st and 2nd (Jr was second) in the Daytona 500 that Dale was killed in.

Oh man I watch his Interviews after races and there is no doubt that his father and his death were on his mind every single time he got in that race car. So many emotions to deal with it’s tough. I guarantee you that was very hard for dale jr dealing with at that age too, especially the bond they had. I lost my dad last summer at 29 and we had a really close bond over nascar.. this is very nostalgic. There is such an empty feeling as a man when all you want to do is make your father proud of you and he’s no longer with you.

Being born and raised here. Still live here out on the lake I loved being able to take back roads a half hour before engine start and still make it on time cause you could skip traffic but using back roads only locals know. Another cool thing is I've always been able to go out in the yard and listen to the echo of the cars coming around turn 4 all the way up to turn 1. Just from living so close. The sound would vote once down the valley across the lake and hit your back porch. Went to that IROC race in the early 2000s to. Don't remember exactly win. I was a preteen or so. Been 20 years ago.

Larry McReynolds said in a interview that Dale told him during the 2000 season, that he could feel his race car again. After his wreck 96 at talladega, he had trouble with numbness and feeling in his hands, and couldn't quite get the feel of what his cars needed, and being as stubborn as he was, he kept it to himself, so they suffered on setup during 97 - 99.

Those perfect people who deride Sr, for not being around his 3 older kids. What were his choices, stay at the mill and give them no opportunties? Come on, non of those kids are missing anything and look at the life he gave them. Are any of them bitter, do they not worship their Dad? If we all had fathers like that, the world would be a better place. We would have less Don Trumps and more caring people who have empathy for the fellow man. Get real people.
