Looking back, Dale Jr. had some massive wins in NASCAR history. Daytona after his father passed, Dover after 9/11. 2 Daytona 500s. He deserves to be in the HOF. He helped carry the sport for many years after his father passed. He earned his spot folks..

Amen! I keep re-watching those. The Pepsi 400 2001 I think it was. He dominated that race. Had an MLB All Star Baseball Budwiser like paint scheme. It was sweet. Never forgot those moment. He was so much faster then everyone else that race. He could pass folks easily by himself, but no one could pass him if he was in the lead. Not even with help. The good old days. Feels like Nascar lately just flat out have too many new rules.

@Joseph Kennedy The cars themselves were fine, it was the lack of safety equipment for the driver like the HANS device and the lack of SAFER barriers that made races back then dangerous. If SAFER barriers were in use back then and the HANS device and other such measures had been mandatory by rule rather than just encouraged, Dale SR wouldve had a much better chance of walking away from the Daytona crash. That being said, I would love to see a revival of the Gen 4 cars that have a bunch of the modern safety systems built in to make them safer than the old ones. I think the racing would improve if they used the older cars, especially at the medium and smaller tracks. Bristol used to be a lot of fun to watch.

2001 memorable? Dude, Jeff Gordon won by like 350 points (that is the difference between 1st and 43rd after 3 races). There were 7 races won from the front row, 12 races with under 15 lead changes, 7,4 cautions per race (12 races had 10 or more cautions)... You fuckers should go check out the races, almost all of them are on KZitem with decent quality. A lot are absolute snoozefests (the difference between 1st and 20th was a lot bigger back then, it's almost funny to see a top driver come back after an early problem, the backmarkers look like they are in a different class of car) and then you have a few races that you could confuse with modern races. Racing wasn't better, go watch those races, they weren't amazing.

It is widely accepted that NASCAR has staged certain races like how Monster Jam does. It is not like the whole race is scripted, that would be way too complex to coordinate, but once the race has to be decided, only a number of results are accepted. In Monster Jam's case the events sometimes don't go the way they originally wanted because of mechanical failures, driving errors or even "happy accidents" like O'Donnell's frontflip in the 2017 World Finals. Certain famous of staged races include this race, the 2001 Atlanta Spring race (Kevin Harvick, who was rather shit back then, somehow wins against Dale Sr's biggest rival), the 2001 Daytona July race (Dale Jr leads 116/160 laps... in a superspeedway... in 2001, how can you even deny that?), the 2011 Daytona truck race (Michael Waltrip wins exactly 10 years after his never-enjoyed Daytona 500 win) and a bunch more. In recent years the whole staging seems to be more limited to qualifying sessions (Danica's poles) but it is impossible to deny that NASCAR has fiddled with the outcomes of certain races to boost their ratings and increase post-race exposure (appear on the news and so on).
