John Redcorn is in the wrong here. He decides to have an affair with someone for years. He has a son with this person. The problem is he tries to connect with this individual but instead the husband of his ex girlfriend. Is now raising a son talk purported justice so he doesn’t have any right to complain if he didn’t get involved in his life the first time and what’s the point of trying to get involved anyway what’s the point of trying to be an emotional wreck if you screwed up in the first place.

It's also why he's bad at piecing information together when it pertains to familial drama.

@@andorchadas7407 because Dale is completely unaware of the betrayal and everyone who does know is keeping quiet for the child's sake. There is the conspiracy theory that Dale has known all along about the affair and just pretends not to know about it. He does this for several reasons, the first being he doesn’t want to move away from his friends, he doesn’t want to have a failed marriage like Bill and above all he genuinely loves Joseph regardless if he is his son or not and Joseph loves him back. He knows divorce can be tough on kids, especially when cheating is involved and doesn’t want to put Joseph through that. For all his quirks and flaws, Dale wants Joseph to grow up in a semi stable household and teach him how to be a real man, unlike his biological father.

He made peace with Dale in the end and realized he was a genuinely good guy.
@dork7546

@@eripmavsdyraid8763 Yeah... That doesn't justify his behaviour. John Redcorn is single, not because he couldn't get any women but because he only wanted to have superficial affairs and one night stands with married women and sex workers instead of settling down with anyone. That, until he realised he's almost 40. Then, he started feeling bitter about not having a family of his own and also feel entitled to Joseph even though, he only came to the Gribble for the past 13 years to have his fun with Nancy while he completely ignored Joseph's existence. And now, all the sudden, he expects Joseph to see him as his dad instead of the man who actually raised him? Yeah... No! Even Joseph were to find out John Redcorn is his biological father, he shouldn't he him as his dad because a dad is supposed to do more than just providing his seed!
@eripmavsdyraid8763
Жыл бұрын
@@dork7546 It's not about justifying his behavior, it's about contextualizing it, and ultimately, seeing how that humanizes John Redcorn. We, as the viewer, realize that John Redcorn is a human being. A character with more depth. He realizes all too late that not settling down with anyone has made him (essentially) friendless, and definitively, alone. He wants more out of life, and the quick answer is the fact that he has a son biologically. Besides, it's evident from the stuff Dale and Joseph say that John is in Joseph's life somewhat, like teaching him how to ride a bike, teaching him how to tie his shoes, among others - but just as a friend of the family. Condemn his actions, sure, but at the same time realize that he's a lonely guy, who wants a family, who is deeply in touch with his roots but has no land or allies, who does the only work he knows but wants to be taken seriously and doesn't know how. You see him get better at it as time goes on, like when he acknowledges Dale after claiming land by the highway, or when he starts a music career.

The baby daddy was a complete sack of shit, so the little girl quickly got used to me, to the point where she eventually started calling me daddy. I'm not even joking, in a lot of ways we did have a Dale and Joseph thing. As fate would have it the chick I was dating is also an ungrateful sack of shit and cheated on me with an old flame. I immediately dumped her, but I always think of her daughter when I see Dale and Joseph. My ex's parents reached out to me saying the little girl still asks and looks for me and it breaks my fucking heart that I can't be in her life anymore. This scene still gets me emotional when I watch it. As humiliated as I was for being cheated on, I spend a lot of time wondering if it was the right choice to walk away with my dignity. I don't give a shit about my ex, but I still think of her daughter all the time. The way Joseph lights up when he talks to or about his dad is just too real. I kinda relate to Dale, I dated a single mom with a 3 year old, took care of her and her mother. She LOVED the outdoors and was the daughter I’ve always wanted to have. We used to go on adventures, she’d watch me fix my car, fix stuff around the house, even try to help 😅, I legit watch all 8 seasons of My Little Pony with her, learned all the lore so she could talk to someone about it. Her actual father was a dead beat, lived with his parents and couldn’t even take care of her by himself. This girl called me Daddy, or Papa, always said I love you, the whole nine yards. But eventually my now ex girlfriend ended up accusing me of cheating, with every female, had a lot of people in my life convinced I was a woman beater and that I was some whore. A few months into this, I found out the entire time she was cheating on me, when I was working 12 hour shifts, she’d have a new guy re-arranging her rear organs. It came to be 13 different guys I decided to break up with her, and went to my younger brother for comfort, only to find he was “dating” her for a good portion of our relationship, I was so broken. The last time I saw this girl I had to explain to her I had to go away, that Mommy and I had take space. Before I left, she said “I love you Daddy, I’ll see you in the morning!” To this day it still hurts, I wish I could’ve been the father she needs. All I wish for is for her to be safe and grow up to be successful, I promised myself if she ever came into my life years in the future and needed help I’d do it in a heartbeat.

Dale is just in denial, he knows, but he loves his son too much to accept the truth.

I always think about there relationship dale and Nancy that is , and what kind of sick heartless person just sits there and let’s it go on , then again I don’t wanna meet the person who goes and tells dale cause he’s even worse or a person than the one who doesn’t

Being a Stepdad myself, dating a single mom who has a daughter, I learned that ANYONE can become a father but it takes a REAL MAN to be a Dad. The father of my fiancée’s kid was a total sack of crap. He bounced after like 5 months after the kid was born. I’m the only dad she knows and basically has at this point. I was there from basically the beginning. And even when the deadbeat did show up, she never recognized him or saw him as her dad, even b4 she was a year old, she always thought I was the dad.

Honestly, I always loved the theory that Dale knew all this time. Considering in the show, he Set them up all the time To tell him that his wife cheated on him

There’s a theory that he is completely oblivious on purpose because his life with his friends and Joseph means more to him than his broken marriage.

I don't care what people say, Dale was a great father to Joseph. Even though Joseph isn't really Dale's kid, he did a dang good job raising him. This was one of my favorite wholesome moment.
