The vision of the show during Hartbell era never ceases to impress me. A credible world with a city on stilts inhabited by large robots with no explanation given as to how this system came about. Then Daleks rock up and battle commences. Love it and still impressed 56 years after televised!

It was actually the other way around.. The Mechonoids were pre-Star Wars.. 1965 iirc.

The mess is because we're not viewing through the original analogue TV system (it had zero bandwidth compression). Just like a cine film, with analogue TV every frame was completely re-drawn

They look like a shipping container from Moonbase Alpha. Gosh to be a long time Doctor Who fan and only learn of the mechanics In April of the year 2022. Imagine One of the oldest something all new. Now I'm even more excitedly looking forward to looking deeper back in time. Well I was born here in the USA May of 1963, while the first doctor who episode Aired in UK the night John F Kennedy was assassinated. Here's Chicago They started airing half hour segments of Doctor Who over public Tely During the late 1970s. So our first doctor was Tom Baker.

This episode should be cleaned up by BBC, sharpened (where possible), and new tasteful cgi effects provided. The 60's effects seen here for the explosions remind me a little bit of the Adam West Batman series effects "pow!!"

@@floydlooney6837 Yep. Plus, unlike the Dalek props. The BBC completely destroyed the props they made due to storage issues. Only in comics, novels and audio dramas do they reappear.

@@georgeowain Still, it would be relatively easy to re-create them for new who, if the writers and producers wanted to. I think the design would need to change a bit. They look clunky. While the Daleks also look clunky, they are know partly for their looks, so it's difficult to change them without causing complaints. Most viewers wouldn't know what a Mechanoid looked like. As for the voice, it probably sounded funky then, but it's not easy to understand and the BBC have got a bit of a reputation recently for having hard to understand speech, so I suspect the voice would need to change as well.
