Coming from a loyal Dallas fan back then. They were running out of stories. In the last years of Dallas 88-91 the storylines were getting real dumb and so far-fetch by then. I think the studio janitors were writing the episodes by then.

Yes was as soupy as could be BUT Dallas was still in its prime here. Not just the fact that soaps in general were at their peak from '83-'85-ish but this was the final season of truly classic Dallas (pre fake Miss Ellie and dream season). This was the perfect cast, storylines, vibe etc...Still okay enough starting w. the fake Miss Ellie and Dream Season (there were at least STILL good storylines and strong characters). I think most agree by 1987-ish esp when Pam left (but that last season w/ her and Susan) were the end of the golden years. Became a 3rd rate Dynasty w/ nothing but frivolous, cliche, tired story-lines the last 4-5 years.

@United We Stand That is definitely true!! J. R. certainly did a lot of drinking, but so did pretty much everyone else!!! Jock, Bobby, Pam, Cliff, Lucy, Ray, Donna, and Clayton all did quite a bit of drinking. And of course, Sue Ellen and Digger Barnes were both raging alcoholics for years!! About the only main character (from the beginning through the middle of the series) who didn't drink to excess was Miss Ellie. And even she did do some drinking. She just did not do as much as everyone else.

That wasn't blackmail. Bobby, Lucy, and Ray were right there in the room so JR wasn't stupid enough to pull something like that on Miss Ellie. He basically told the truth, that neither Ray, Lucy, nor Bobby were not experienced enough to run Ewing Oil. Bobby wasn't quite ready to run the company yet as Pam was having serious emotional issues and Bobby had just brought Christopher home and he and Pam were getting used to being parents.
@VultCult
8 жыл бұрын
No it was blackmail based on lies. JR had convinced Bobby that he wasn't good enough to run Ewing Oil (JR had manipulated his exit previously), and subsequently blackmailed Miss Ellie into keeping his job. It wouldn't work the 2nd time however. JR wound up unemployed and with a sock to teh jaw.
