In yet another attempt to gain stock into WestStar Oil, John Ross "J.R." Ewing, Jr. (Larry Hagman) has himself committed to a sanitarium in order to secure the voting rights from major stockholder Jessica Farlow, the sister of his stepfather Clayton Farlow (Howard Keel). After that is done, J.R'.s son James (Sasha Mitchell) shows up with his release papers signed, which he has promised to give JR once he signs a property agreement for his soon-to-be-ex-second wife Cally HarperEwing (Cathy Podewell). After J.R. begrudgingly signs the papers, James decides to tear the release papers up, forcing J.R. to stay in the sanitarium. After J.R. is dragged kicking and screaming away, James stands there grinning, proving that when it comes to scheming, he is his father's son
