Thank God she stood up for what she thought was right, family "loyalty" be damned. That's one of the reasons I liked the character!

Miss Ellie tried to be the best mother to JR, when she failed! She knew that from the beginning, since his birth, he was going to be power-hungry.

in season2 when sue-ellen was pregnant miss.ellie & jock felt her heavy alcohol consumption was related to jr...Miss ellie asks boby and jock to leave her and jr for a few so that she cld talk with jr...that was the one and only conversation that alluded to Miss.ellie acknowledging jr.'s repeated infidelities and mny times not even attempting to be discreet....this conversation was very enlighting because Miss.ellie also alluded to the responsibility she might bare because she stepped away too soon when he got to an age that she felt she was not needed....it was also at that time she told jr that unlike his daddy who tough and gruff with a take no prisoner attitude he had mny redeeeming qualites where jr had none...

Miss Ellie was not happy that JR try to use her like that. I think this and when he mortgage the ranch for the Asian oil deal, she knew then she just couldn't trust him anymore to do the right thing. That's the reason she left Southfork in Bobby's care. She never stop loving him, but he really stressed her out though.

1) So what if Sue Ellen was living with Dusty. Is that worse than J.R. knocking up her sister Kristen and hitting the sheets with Afton in their bed at Southfork while everyone else was downstairs at Lucy's wedding reception? Not to mention sleeping with Louella and Leslie Stewart. And all of that was in one season! 2) Who cares if Jock supported J.R.'s lowlife plan? That doesn't obligate Ellie to do the same. She often disagreed with his tactics and wasn't shy about voicing her opinion.

Actually, I think J.R. started it by screwing every woman in Dallas. On second thought, every woman in the state of Texas. He treated Sue Ellen like sh!t and John Ross was mostly just a pawn in a game to him...a means to an end...the only way to secure his daddy's approval. And you hate Clayton because he leveled the playing field between J.R. and Sue Ellen?? God forbid that someone prevented him from running roughshod over another powerless woman like he did Valene.

She was a better mother than J.R. was a son. Remember when he mortgaged and almost lost Southfork? Or when he planned to drill for oil on Southfork against her wishes? Not to mention the fact that she basically lost Gary forever because of J.R.'s manipulations. What's your definition of "a good mother"? A woman willing to kidnap your son from his mother even when she knows it's against the child's best interests?
@enchantedboy66

Why? So J.R. could get John Ross back by any lowdown, dirty tactic he wanted?? All Clayton did was make it possible for a COURT OF LAW to decide who would get custody. And J.R. tried his DAMNEDEST to sabotage that. And who gives a sh!t what J.R. wants? Did he EVER ONCE consider what was best for his son? Hell no.

I don't thin Ms.Ellie was ever against JR,she just didn't approve of his methods to achieve his own ends,nor his tendency to involve others in his devious plans,no matter what the cost,she had to live with her own concious,an as a mother herself,she understood,how devastating this would be to Sue Ellen who was a good mother,neither deserved this sort of treatment by JR.Knowing Sue Ellen she never would have held this against Ms.Ellie,she respected her and trusted her to make the right decisions

I could never figure why the security team at the Southern Cross Ranch kept their distance when it was apparent that John Ross was being abducted. You'd think at least one of them would have set down their firearm and approach JR/Miss Ellie to intervene during that abduction attempt. But, it was different seeing JR holding something beside a beverage glass in his hand during this scene.

this scene did not make sense when i watched it as a kid n even less sense watching it as an adult....Jr was a manipulative narcissist....A) but in what reality wld he ever believe that ellie wld ever steal john ross from sue-ellen in such an underhanded move...B) they are standing in front of the helicopter with the door open....all Jr had to do was snatch johnn ross from his mama n get in the helicopter n take off...C) once Jr opened that gate n John-ross had come past the gate pick him up n get in the copter.....Not even a sharpshooter with a scope wld have taken the shot with him holding the baby n once he gets in the copter n closes n locks the door....all bets are off....

Doesn't make the statement about disloyalty untrue. An JR was right more often than people gave him credit for. Bobby himself admitted that what JR did was often necessary, even if he didn't like it one bit. And 'constantly right'? 'Constantly wrong?' No situation is like that.

Sal Paradise this has got to be by far the dumbest comment I've ever come across on KZitem. Are you really serious???? Disloyal???? Fake??? You have a son who is responsible for multiple people on that show committing suicide, running his brothers and sister in laws off of SF Ranch, using SF as collateral behind both Miss Ellie's and Jock's back, STEALING his own father's will and forging it, and all these things ANYONE will disagree with... ESPECIALLY his own mother who he and the rest of his siblings and their significant others are supposed to be representing POSITIVELY of South Fork. In this instance, she made the right decision by handing that child back to Sue Ellen. She would've been violating a court order right along with her no good son. You must be trash just like JR.
