Pam actually died in that car accident, whether the original Dallas or the sequel reboot ever recognized it. The sequel reboot took some liberties, but so did the original after the Dream Season. And let’s not forget the TV movies that were expunged from the reboot. They did a cheesy way of writing Pam out to avoid a second dream season, but seriously they should have just pulled the trigger. They literally had Pam dying a season later and then had that actress come back as a look-a-like to have Bobby have closure. So really, as retconned as it was … Bobby and Ann were now together and an item. I don’t know the reboot well enough to go deeper. I do know the reboot confirms Pam died maybe a year or two after Cliff saw her in Canada. In spite of Cliff not that nasty by the final season when April died and refused to go into business with James to destroy JR for Bobby’s sake. It seems that the reboot took a lot of liberties, especially after Hagman died and made Bobby and Sue Ellen as deplorable as JR. Although the later Dallas years did have Bobby try to develop a Jock Ewing streak at times before giving it all up when April died. So maybe the liberties weren’t as far fetched.

How this show COULD and WOULD have worked: Had Hagman been healthy and not so sickly looking (pained me to see him this way) and still been running Ewing Oil (which no longer existed at this point) and none of this 'Ewing Energies" crap. Sly could have still been his trusty assistant and they could have used old exterior shots of the old Ewing building if it no longer exists in Dallas. Then had some more of original cast there. Ray was a good start, add jenna to....and Donna.....then have Gary there back in town (separated from Valene i suppose or maybe her there with him), have Katherine Wentworth stirring up trouble (she was killed off by the producer who had seen no episodes of the original show and of course Victoria been there as Pam. Im agine the build up when she walked on the scene showing she was alive. If shed flat out refused to do the show then yes a recast but not having that character hurt the show terribly.

Whoever edited this must have taken some speed. I recall Duffy mentioning how they had some up and coming director / editor but believe me, the original pacing was part of the show, as were those awesome / terrible close-ups and the general cinematography of the original. The people who made this did not understand Dallas. Nevertheless, Larry and friends still have such electrical energy that whatever bottle you put it inside, it works.

I loved it when Dallas came back in 2012. I first got into the show as a 10 year old in 98 and waited 14 long years for another update. Disney should buy the rights to Dallas and continue as books, movies, animated and live action programs. They helped Star Wars a lot. Lets see if they can do the same for Dallas. Could there even be a ride at the parks... A roller coaster tour of the ranch or something. It gets rocky and bumpy when on the ranch you get shot at by Hughes and McKays henchmen in a helicopter.

According to the story writing for Dallas 2012 series - the events of 1996 film JR Returns and 1998 War of the Ewings were dropped/ignored - so how does Sue Ellen explain her divorce from movie producer Don Lockwood?
@legendbucwild

guess that was scrapped too...... it wasn't just the movies. It also seemed like the writers of the 2012 show were also a little picky and choosey about what content from the original series made it into their backstory. one example: The 1st or 2nd episode of 2012 John Ross said he was the first Ewing grandson, which means no James Baumont
