If your rendering areas what you using,, lime renders, a s&c mix or a system render,, weber do some brilliant system renders,, they do a one coat render, which is really nice to trowel and rule off low shrinkage rate also, I'm getting on and can't cover the metres now, this is the sort a graft I need to get in about

Hi Sam, just a quick one I’m a plasterer by trade and really interested in getting involved with the damp proofing, do you know of any courses I can take? And also how did you get qualified? Kind regards. Danny

Hello Danny, Hope you're well, As a plasterer, you have a great start for working on the damp remedial side of things as you will be able to relate to a lot of the procedures. The main body for our industry is the Property Care Association (PCA). If you find their website you will be able to take their technician's course which i have done. they can give you all the information you need to work within this sector. If you wanted to jump straight in they also do the courses for Certificated Surveyor in remedial treatments (CRST) and Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW) which i have both. The courses cost money but investing in yourself is worth it in the long run. All the manufacturers like Safeguard, Sovereign, Delta, Wykomol, JN, all have courses too and this would also be a great way to start, i have done safeguards courses at their offices to become a registered user in the early days. Do some reasearch online and see what best suits you, Hope this has helped you

Simon Cooper HNC CSRT CSSW thanks mate that is really helpful and I’m definitely going to get on it in the new year 👍 also I’m not going to ask what you charge but how much can a damp proofing specialist potentially earn for say that one wall your sitting in front of? All the best. Danny

Good Morning Danny, There are a couple of ways of pricing and being a plasterer you will know one which is to work out how much you want to charge per day and then add on materials. the other professional way is to break everything down like a quantity surveyor would and work a price per square meter for each different service you provide. When you expand you have to then add into the equation your overheads and you then end up with a minimum price you have to charge to make a profit each day which for the average damp company is quite considerable. We have a lot of old buildings in England and they all need maintaining so there is a large market out there to service for good companies. good luck with it.

paul duffy I’m not sure on grip fill ingredients or if it’s sticks to the salt neutraliser so can’t really comment. Safeguards acrylic dry grip has been tested and developed for damp work.
