1. No, flame cannot harm a dragon. 2. The fact that she could suddenly use a sword well enough to defeat the dragon while the King and his best trained knights couldn't is laughable. 3. Magical healing slugs? seriously? 4. The fall alone should have broken those girls spines and legs. 5. Are we just going to forget that the Dragon killed countless innocent women for yrs when it could have simply destroyed the kingdom and moved on?

I find it unbelievable that Elodie and all the previous princesses before her survived a long fall that should have taken their lives or paralyzed them when landing on their backs real hard.

I think 'How To Train Your Dragon' did the whole "dragons being weak to their own fire" idea better.

It would have been so so cool if the rest of the movie was just Elodie cleverly navigating the cavern, maneuvering around the Dragon (which would have been awesome thriller action), learning from the other girls’ mistakes and leaving trails improving on the previous ones, and then possibly going on or setting up a one woman rampage of revenge on the royal family. That would have been so much cooler imo instead of yet another “I’m a woman, BUT I’m a STRONG woman!” plot that falls apart The set up to this movie was REALLY good! Just another wasted potential…

"takes lot of responsibilities"... dude, she's chopping wood. Having kids and attacking the kingdom are not mutually exclusive.

Off topic questions for you, Vexed. Do you think pure evil villains are considered badly written characters no matter how good they are written? Is a single "slap" to the face the equivalent to "beating someone up"? Can you make a video about what is a character development specifically and show some examples with it?

Well I just assume the Dragon didnt care about immediately killing her was because shes just taking her time with her vengeance. The Dragon supposedly took down the Kings forces in the backstory, so a little girl trying to escape or be a threat should be impossible. So its just toying with her, and even if she does escape... So? The dragon will just go down to the kingdom and burn them to the ground. The Dragon doesn't NEED to follow through with the arrangement. Also the sacrificed girls being different races isn't a big deal either. As far as the possibilities from the Dragons perspective is it being the kings daughters from different concubines or him having multiple wives of different races. I think Dragons SHOULD be immune to their own element. But if you consider animals of any kind, even humans. If our stomach acid got out and touched our skin or our appendix burst and the insides got out into the rest of our organs. We would suffer in pain, take damage, and possibly die. So it's not like its impossible. (Even Godzilla has been attacked by his own Blast Breath attack and gotten hurt by it. )

I'm sorry but I was with Angela Bassett on stopping the wedding. There were signs everywhere that something was wrong, and she didn't want Elodie to be isolated with people she knew couldn't be trusted.

My biggest problem here 8:45 isn't that the dragon could've killed her but didn't, it's that the story contradicted it's whole thesis. Melody is supposed to subvert the damsel in distress trope, but in this instance she's hopelessly in distress and is only saved by a man (her father calling her name). I liked the dragon design. I think dragons are much cooler when they speak and look distinct from big lizards, like their own species or amalgam of creatures. I do wish think it should've been bigger though, especially compared to the amount of destruction it was able to cause.

I agree with some of the views you have on the movie. I enjoyed the beginning and the cave survival part. I was okay with the dragon not finishing off Elodie, since seems in line as the dragon was toying with her the whole time. The queen being so sure the 2nd sacrifice didn't happen when angry dragon makes a fire mountain - I mean dragon could have been wounded some how and dragon being angry being wounded by prey. I also questioned where her sword competency came from - if they said it was a family heirloom and the sword is enchanted that gives the temporary sword knowledge to the MC's bloodline, I would believe that. Also questioned the villains' choice not guarding the mountain. Other than these points, it was an enjoyable movie but not enough for a rewatch. EDIT: they could have extended the intro a bit i think, e.g. have Elodie doing various tasks to help the Kingdom - such as being part of a militia or whatever armed forces they have (that way can explain her sword skills),

I just watched it, and I think it would have benefitted greatly from it being more of a survival show and less preachy about how terrible rich people are and strong women are. I think if they focused more on her finding a way out to escape the place with the looming threat of the dragon possibly showing up at any moment, it would have been a lot more interesting and put the audience on the edge of their seat. I think if Elodie spent many weeks down there, it would have been more impactful. And then when she finally escaped, she's hardened from surviving all those weeks in the caves with the dragon, so that gives her the skills she needs to sneak into the palace and assassinate the royal family. Maybe the skills she learned from climbing the crystals at the end she uses to climb the tower of the royals and she is able to kill them in their bedrooms that way. It could be a slit throat in their sleep for Henry, and then maybe a dragged out kill for the queen, wanting to make sure they're awake to know why they are dying, she could possibly kill her father too. And then she could go off with her sister and step mom and live happily ever after. Now that would be a cool revenge story, and you would still have a good strong female character without her magically becoming good at things like she did with the sword and apparently being better than like 8 trained knights combined without having ever picked up a sword before. And the whole getting nearly killed by your own fire thing was stupid, like I can see it maybe injuring the dragon a little, but nowhere near incapacitating it to where it can no longer stand. I feel like that part would have only worked if the fire maybe blinded the dragon's other eye, and even that is taking a bit of creative license

I'll be "hateful." This movie is a prime example of why the "intersectionalism," "post modernism," and all the current day pseudo-intellectualisms are ultimately foolish. The concept of "Damsel" is actually quite good. In the hands of a good author, I would like to see this tale. However, Elodie (Notice how the dropped the "M" to "Melodie) is rather two-dimensional. The efforts to make her look competent and caring have massive flaws when you look at them. Several people have pointed out many examples, such as chopping wood when she could be doing something such as overseeing trade or something. Her combat skills at the end are chiefly unearned, and her 'badass' appearance at the end is simply to make her 'look badass.' As Vexed said, there is no legitimate reason the dragon did not roast her there and then. She lived simply for the sake of the plot, and the sake of the plot was to "stick it to The Patriarchy." By the way, I'll be "narrow-minded" and "evil" -- "The Patriarchy" does not exist. Wake up. I could go on, but at the climax when Elodie teams up with the dragon, and together they "purge the evil kingdom." ... Why? No, really. Why? There is no way everyone in that castle and the nearby area were ALL evil. And do you honestly think the dragon won't move on? Of if that dragon does not move on, are you completely certain she will not have another clutch of eggs, and at least one hackling will not move on and claim who knows how many lives? Oh yes, "They're just evil humans. All humans are evil, and get what they deserve, and aren't i so clever and witty for making such a wide-sweeping assessment." siiiiigh ... I could think of so many ways this could have been written into a much better story. Here's one. How about when Elodie and the prince talk and get to know each other more, then prince truly grows to like her to the point he finds he can't let be sacrificed. In the short moments they had, they showed one of the reasons he was distant was because he didn't want to get involved with someone he knew he was going to help sacrifice. So how about this for a twist? After he throws her down, there's a pause where you see it from his perspective. She falls. He knows she's still alive and injured. The guilt starts to eat at him. The others try to affirm it's all proper and good, and that this is ONLY way. Then he turns to them, and simply says, "No." And then he quietly steps off the ledge to share whatever fate with Elodie. but no. That kind of story can't happen. Logic can't happen. It's all to "fight' whatever perceived ills of the world. So yet another potentially good story goes into the sewage. To quote Az / HeelvsBabyface, "I'm sick of this timeline."

Dragons aren't always immune to fire. It depends on the world the story takes place in. Dragons aren't real, so the mechanics of their existence are up for the storyteller to decide. As long as the story is consistent with how it depicts the mechanics, it's fine. And I don't remember the movie showing the dragon being fire resistant.
