I had a chance to meet his father in 1980. I was playing in Moline, Ill. and had the Sunday off. I drove to Peoria and looked him up in the phone book. Looked on the map in the gas station and drove to his house, knocked on the door and said "I'm sorry to bother you but your son is a huge influence on my music and I wanted to meet the man who Leader of the Band was written about." He said, "Well, I guess that's me." He invited me in and showed me the gold records on his living room wall and asked about me. We talked for about 10 minutes and then I left. It was one of the more significant moments in my life. I miss Dan Fogelberg. There will never be another like him.

I was waiting in line at the Boulder Theatre to get a good seat to see Tim Weisberg back in '81. This dapper man in jeans, western shirt and boots quietly strolled by me. He looked very familiar, and instantly I knew it was Dan. We made eye contact; he pleaded (silently) via his expression not to verbally recognize him. Taking the hint, I simply smiled and nodded, and he returned the favor. He crossed the street, and I didn't follow him with my gaze, choosing to grant his wish for relative anonymity. No sooner did he get to the other side than some doofus in line yelled "Hey! That's Dan Fogelberg!" Luckily for him, Dan had disappeared into a building. Later that evening as Tim Weisberg was wrapping up a spectacular concert, he brought Dan out for a few encores, "The Power of Gold" and "Can't Find My Way Home." It was an evening for the ages. RIP to a wonderful, gifted and soulful performer.

Dan Fogelberg was one of the most gifted singer, songwriter, musicians of all time. I surely miss him. I saw him last here in Minnesota in 1997, the year of this tour. I drove to Madison, Wisc. to see him in 2003. It would be the last time I would see him alive. I feel so sorry for the youth now that they don't have someone like this to listen to. I had the great pleasure of seeing Dan in concert many times. And every one was a great experience. He was quite simply one of the greatest singer-songwriters of the 20th century and achingly underrated. I still mourn his loss. The world is a poorer place without him. I can't even imagine what great music we have lost because he is no longer here to create it. But I also know that people will be listening to him sing forever. We still listen to what Mozart created, and we will listen to Dan. We may have lost Dan, but great music never dies.

His musical skills and beautiful lyrics put everyone else to shame. He could play various instruments and sing so perfectly. He could melt your heart and lift you up to the sky. I miss him more than ever. If you want to know what music is about - just listen to Dan.

IMHO, A more truer, free spirit Than Dan Fogelberg you cannot find. The man had such immeasurable, otherworldly gifts that literally poured out of him, able to capture and paint images through his unequaled lyrical and musical talents that embrace and fire the soul. He left us way too young, yet thankfully leaves a legacy of recorded work that we can enjoy to keep the memory of his passions for life, humanity, and the natural world he so loved, alive for the ages. Thank you for sharing your spirit with us Dan. We miss you beyond measure.

Thank you wholeheartedly for posting this. Fogelberg was a man of deep sensitivity, a poet, and an impassioned performer. I saw him at Jones Beach c. 1986 and was handed second row seats; Dan's sweat hit my forearm. He barely uttered a word the entire two hours he graced the stage. He had just shaved off his mustache and beard and cut his hair, and his plain white undershirt underscored that he had come to play. I still wonder what went through his mind that evening. How I miss him.

Every time I try coming up with a list of my favorite Dan songs, this one is always right up there. 'Course, it's impossible to have just one top favorite, there are just too many good ones. Although I saw Dan in concert twice, I never saw this performed live, so thanks for posting. With Dylan's recent Pulitzer, maybe Dan can get some recognition too for the sheer poetry of his lyrics. I always felt like Dan's message was paramount, and the melody served to amplify the meaning of the words. Absolute synergy of two art forms coming together and creating something greater than the sum of its parts.
