Until now I think I haven't gotten a good answer as to my service related questions. I thought you're only allowed to toss the ball "nearly vertical" but that's not throwing the ball vertical. That's not even attempting to throwing it vertical. That's throwing the ball at an arc backwards. And I'm confused on the service rules.
@Morain42
8 жыл бұрын
His serve at 00:30 looks 'near vertical' so its ok, but at 00:37 he clearly throws it backwards so it's not legal
@shogrran
8 жыл бұрын
Morain42 I'm ok with the service at 0:30 but rule wise they said that both umps should get a clear view of the ball. That still doesn't meet that criteria imho. Although a lot of umps are fine with just one of the umps being able to see the toss and point of contact. 0:37 clearly illegal but some professional players still do that backward toss even in official games and they don't get called for it. Right now the legal-est service I know of is samsonov's.

Unlike regular tennis, it is a decided disadvantage to be tall in table tennis. Look at how many of Dan's shots looked awkward because he needed to bend his knees much more in order to scoop up those low balls. I just think that its more natural to hit balls that are close to eye level as opposed to below the waist. I think short players also get more leverage and control on their shots.
