I was there in those days. Me and my buddies. Get there early and stay all day. Eat a big sub at "Reb's" on the pier. We surfed the southside on big days. Big peaks. Fond memories. Thank you for putting this on. p.s We would paddle down to Doheny for the hell of it. Boneyard was the spot. I was lucky to have grown up in those days.

Dana Point pulled a real fast on sneaking that project in before the coastal commission took control. We were there in 63 as kids but not good enough to enjoy it. A real missed opportunity! There's a walking trail on the bluff with signs all over talking about "protecting the environment". Then a big sign about developing the harbor and what a wonderful thing they did by destroying the environment! You've gota laugh!

Between 1964 and 1967, a group of surfers, led by Ron Drummond (avid canoe, kayak and board surfer) fought against the construction. But the boat industry and city saw the monitary potential of a harbor at the point and pushed it through. The last sequence in the movie (gray, small, and crowded) was taken the week before they dropped the first boulder to start the break wall. This was before Surfrider Foundation. It could never happen today. I still mourn the loss on my morning walks around the marina. Thanks for your comment. Larry Collins

Killer Dana! Who died? First surfing I ever saw about 1958 while fishing from the old pier with my Dad. Real big swells broke 2 balsa boards into pieces on the pilings that day, right before my 10 year old eyes. A decade later watched as they started dropping the first granite for the new harbor. I still call it the that new gosh darn harbor.

I was told that Dana would break once or twice a year and every trip south we would stop and look. I never did catch the break? There was an over look up on the top of the cliff to sit down and contemplate but that was it. My last trip to the point I had a date and we had dinner at the Quiet Cannon. By then the point was destroyed. That would have been about 72? So, this is what the break looked like. Good video!!!!!!!!
