The good looks of grain & colors does reflect how this tree grew with nutrition plus minerals in soil before the log had been finally cut & harvested but does NOT mean it WILL sound any better than "ugly" looking soundboards most people dislike(especially the dark line strips).

Yeah honesty I'm starting to find the ugly tops sound better. Know why? It's very hard to find a perfect piece of Addy that also sounds amazing. I personally like grain variations and some color anyway. I think it tells a story. Gives it character. I'm getting a very expensive custom made and my 3 priorities for a top were strait grain, no run out, and silking. Because I didn't upgrade from the 3-4 Addy top grade, I knew this was more important than no color but runout etc. This way I get a top that would be master grade of not for the color. I'd rather get a great piece of wood with streaks. Which I found. No run out, very strait grain, silking, yet some of color where mineral deposits are, and two compression lines right down the middle which form a V, which is kind of cool actually. I'll take a well quartered top like that everyday. There's an old joke that sunburst guitars sound better. I'm starting to think that might not be a joke. They sometimes get the best sounding piece of wood, but that looks off putting to some. Like I said I'm not one to want a top that looks like it was printed. I like to know it came from a tree that went through things along the way

Great video on what goes into selecting the right piece of wood for the Bourgeois tops. For many years I've not used a piggy bank. Since falling completely and utterly in love with these Bourgeois guitars guess what purpose the piggy bank will serve? Here in Edmonton, AB I don't even know if I can physically get my hands on a Bourgeois. Ordering online though hopefully. I realize limited supply. Bourgeois guitars will bring much happiness to earthlings.

I’d be fun to see in a blind test if he could pick out one of his guitars from another builders guitars.

Funny how that darker heavier grained piece is actually lighter in weight. And it's a larger piece. You just never know by looks. Most would think it's heavier looking at it. That piece and the last two sounded best to me too. Never let looks deceive you. I actually like to see the grain, like some coloring too. It's a tree. I don't want it to look like a print out. I will never understand people who want perfect looking tops Really sad to hear some people won't use heavy grain on expensive guitars
