Dancers for Black Lives Matter is a new and evolving organization that provides a platform to affirm and elevate voices that cannot and will not be silenced or suppressed. Our power will be heard and seen, danced and undenied.
Formed in partnership by The International Association of Blacks in Dance and The Superfine Collective, our goal is to expand into a global initiative that provides support and aid to its network of dancers. By creating an interconnected web that reaches all corners of the world, local action is felt as global change. We will share nuanced stories and experiences of Black dancers while addressing concrete actions institutions can take to embody the mission of the larger Black Lives Matter movement. Artists should be at the forefront of change. Now is the time to “tenDU the WORK” for diversity, equity, and anti-racism.
The voiceover was created by collecting statements from dancers around the world and curating the unified experience into a poem. These quotes were gathered through a survey that will continue to be hosted on dancersforblacklivesmatter.org. In the future, we hope to use this survey to inspire and facilitate artistic projects, as well as functional ways to use the responses in order to engage leadership in the dance world to meet our demands.
